WHM doing level 50 stuff for the first time?

I feel like this is a dumb question but this is my first MMO so I started with BLM got it to 50 and then did BRD to 50 since I liked it more. I'm at ilvl 95 as BRD and just unlocked the EX mode primals (haven't done them) and haven't done WoD yet as well as a bunch of HM dungeons. I've done ultima, syrcus tower and I think Haukke HM might be as far as I've done. Anyway I do WHM now since I LOVE it but I always felt like tank and healer were for pros, or people that were doing it as a secondary class since it seem so hard to learn the mechanics while keeping people alive. Originally I wanted to do everything first as BRD to get an idea then do it as WHM but I'm feeling like I want to only play WHM now. If I study guides online and what not, do many people do dungeons for the first time as a healer? I feel like people would be so mad since especially in raids they act like everyone is supposed to be some kind of pro even though half the time there's a bunch of new people so makes me nervous to try!

Before I enter dungeons I alwas watch a video. Usually it's MTQ (MTQ Capture) on Youtube, but if she doesn't have one I watch Mr. Happy's. MTQ's guides are very to the point and give bullet points on things to watch out for. She generally has shorter videos too. I also like her videos because she plays a tank and I would much rather see encounters from the Tank's PoV rather than a DPS'. She also occasionally gives the healer's PoV as well, but she always clarifies what each role is required to do and what each role should look out for. All while making puns.

    I've done everything in this game as a healer first. It's not really all that hard and in reality a healer doesn't have much to look out for except for very specific mechanics. Besides keeping you team a live and removing buffs there's only a few cases where there's a mechanic that healer specific (like Siren for example). If you know your job and you understand the dungeon you shouldn't have any real trouble. I'm always nervous before I enter a new instance, which is why I haven't done any EX trials yet... >>;

Remember op don't treat it like a job/ homework. Treat it more like a quick lecture cuz watching a vid 100x over can ony do so much.

Healing is generally situational, unlike DPS class that have rotations. Unless you run with people who have a set way, all the time, no two experiences will be exactly the same. A suggestion I can make is to run certain dungeons until you feel comfortable with your ability, then spam one you find challenging until you feel like you know how to handle situations (rather than mechanics). I did this with my Bard character on Titan HM/EX/WoD (though other reasons for WoD, than practice) after struggling on WHM, then made the switch when I was comfortable enough.

I usually go into brand new content on WHM though (ironic compared to what I'd just said) - every time they add a large MSQ patch, etc
You can also watch guide vids for some things like Trials that may have certain mechanics you have to deal with specifically as a healer. Or you can just watch them in general for dungeons. But I garantee that if you pug/DF into them, you won't always get the same results as the guide vids.

The unfortunate side of raiding is that you get some bad apples who will be rude and scream all over Alliance chat and be generally abbrasive, sarcastic, etc. I don't think all people expect perfection - if you state that you're new/still learning/etc, some people will try to help you out (...try..... before someone face pulls....). The last few raids I was in that weren't disasters (with the alliance being completely silent) were all pretty easy going and didn't tear into themselves internally, regardless that mistakes were made. They're not all bad.
Just don't run away from a raid or dungeon after a bad run, if you want to learn that fight. It can be quite stressful as a healer, but you can only grow from it.

If you like to heal, then heal! People may squeel like babies if you do mess up in new content, but hey, you're unlikely to see them again so who cares? You're still learning - who are they to expect perfection? (easy advice to say, difficult to put into action, I know) As long as you come out of it taking advice and experience to apply in your role, then thats all you can do.

Perfection is a flawed concept. 'Perfection' doesn't exist - otherwise 'imperfection' wouldn't. 'Perfect' is 'imperfect' as it is, because it can not be universally agreed upon ---- therefore 'perfect' is imperfect.

i startet as whm and it's still the only class i am playing. was my first mmo, first time healing and of course did all the content first time as healer^^

yeah, it can be difficult to learn and do the mechanics while you have to look that nobody dies. you can't concentrate on healing, then do the mechanic and after that continue to heal, like a DPS can stop doing damage. if you stop healing the people will die. on the other hand it is really easy to play a healer. push button X and X will happen. no combos, no rotations, no off-cd's, no positioning... if anything spawns while the fight you will pull aggro almost instant with healing, so you will see what happens, you have a good view over the battlefield.

only a very few fights were difficult to learn and i'm sure playing as DPS is not easier or harder. depends on the fight too. ifrit ex is more difficult as heal, while in ramuh ex you staying around while the DPS do alle hard work :x

oh: and use the focus target often, it helps you a lot since you don't have the boss in traget. with focus traget you can see his castbar and buffs and debuffs.

    helpfull little macro:

    /focustarget <tt>

if you have the tank in target it makes the traget of your tank (the boss) to your focustarget o.@

My FC and I would help you through the EX's if we were on the same server. x_x Safety in friendlies number, lol. We're either always raiding in CT (masochists?) or in a few/spamming some of the EXs anyway

Thanks everyone! That's handy regarding the /focustarget <tt> as I'm on PS4 so could make that a quick button on a side hotbar. It's true about never seeing people again, I'm glad everyone isn't always from the same server as that helps tremendously. The raids by far are the worst for rudeness or sarcasm. I don't know why people can't just say "Make sure to stand in the blue circle when it comes up" or something, but instead have to let everyone die and then say all sarcastically "Or you could actually try MOVING into the blue circle next time". Def having lots of fun though!

I find MTQ's videos are better than MrHappy's, but that's primarily because she is doing her videos more like a Lecture than MrHappy's which is more like rush to just get a video out there.

That said, Nobody updates their videos. To give you an example. WoD's Cerberus, MTQ mentions the ABC solution, but the solution everyone uses now is the "all DPS in"

So use the video if you hate surprises. None of the content was ever made easier by watching a video, it just gives you a frame of reference for dealing with DF PUG's who -also- watched the same video.

Well the flipside of that is you can't heal if you're dead. So never take stupid risks.
