Just because it's invisible doesn't mean the object is not there anymore. Predator could do it and his mass was still there, he speared people all the time while invisible. Hollow Man did all kinds of crazy stuff. The Klingon Bird of Prey crushed a trash can and blocked a harpoon while cloaked.
The ironic part is that the original Bird-of-Prey line couldn't be shielded when cloaked. Nor could it even fire it's weapons!Just because it's invisible doesn't mean the object is not there anymore. If a PLD can't block or lob, what good is he!?![]()

I imagin it being something like the Tomahawk from the Marauder. We clearly see the Marauder make a huge swing with the axe that creates a projectile, but we never see a Tomahawk flying, it more looks like a glowing orb of energy. I imagin that this energy is within the weilder and requires an item to be manifested and made into an attack. So without a shield to complete the conjuring of this energy you would not be able to use the energy for an attack.
And we all know that it's classic in Anime that people name their attacks, and that attacks usually have a certain look. So I would not be surprised if they named it Shield Lob because it manifests as a glowing shield and you launch it from your shield.
Personally always explained it by the affinty to magic Paladins have, some minor recall spell. Without a "magic" explanation though, heh.. >.<;;
I suggested this long time ago, and SE basically said no, but they may be looking into an energy shield or small shield.
Their reason: It looks weird....like shield bash with no shield. Just like eating a tera flare with no pants.....
