One thing to be careful about when speaking of Eorzean geography is that the Calamity rearranged the land somewhat. The Crystal Tower could have been built relatively far from Silvertear Falls, but after the land shifted due to an artificial moon crashing into it and then a giant dragon exploding like a nuke, the two locations could have been pushed together.

I don't think the geography changed that much. The only things which have really moved were the Twelve Stones, entire locations didn't swap places, the Calamity mostly just caused some "superficial" scars to show up. Even the most drastic damage/movement (the Descent in lower La Noscea) isn't nearly as substantial as Crystal Tower moving from, lets say South Shroud to Mor Dhona. It would also have had to have moved other places, like Saint Coinach's Find, which is directly connected to the Tower by a road (interestingly does anyone else also notice a road leading to the Lake as well?), which just seems very unlikely to me. Then there is the placement of Omega; NPCs even speculated that Darnus chose that location to drop Dalamud so that Omega could be dealt with and not be a potential threat to Bahamut, indicating that, prior to the Calamity the area was "known" to have Allagan Ruins. Given Omegas role and Dalamud and Crystal Towers relationship, it makes sense that it would be situated close to the Tower.

The Calamity did more unearthing that causing drastic movements, I think. Eric even gave us a pre-Calamity idea of where the Tower was; Exactly where it is now.

Huh, okay, fair. And I didn't mean it moved much, just from somewhere not directly lake-adjacent. I thought some areas shrank from the calamity pushing stuff closer together, justifying the smaller maps in 2.0? Or are chunks just totally removed?

Mostly I think chunks have been removed/blocked, rather than things getting smaller. You can actually overlap the current maps with the old ones fairly well, just a fair amount of the areas on old maps have gone, though some new parts have opened up as well.

Even if areas had been pushed together though, Silvertears used to be much larger than it is. Prior to the crash of the Agrius it was a multi-tiered lake much larger than it currently is, the crash drained it of much of its water according to the Sightseeing Log. Given how Crystal Tower seems to involve a fair amount of lava in the Labyrinth and water in the Tower-proper (and if you look at the model furnishing it seems the Labyrinth supports a small lake around the Tower), I wouldn't be surprised if it was basically in a shallow part of Silvertear Falls.

Xandes Calamity may have caused more movement, since the earth was said to basically swallow the Tower whole, though given the fact that Bahamut seems to have directed Darnus to crash Dalamud into Allagan Ruins, I'm not thinking Eorzea has much in the way of tectonic activity. Stuff sunk, then Bahamuts Calamity resulted in a lot of it being unearthed again, I don't think places shifted location all that much (except the odd Twelve Stone, though I think that was more out of the developers wanting to put them all in 2.0 but not having the right zones to do so).

    This.

It was confirmed during the last interview that Bahamut was among the Seven Celestial Dragons, making him Midgardsormr's offspring.

The Crystal Tower did move, actually, but not far enough, I think, to avoid it's detection by Midgardsormr.
