Relationship between Bahamut and Midgardsomr?

I'd love to see the Crystal Tower play an actual role in the Main Scenario in Heavensward (or, well, ever), but... I think at most we may discover that whatever Middy was guarding is the reason the Allagans chose that particular spot for their tower, and that will at best end up as some tertiary side quest reveal. I'll be high as a kite if I get proven wrong on that, though.

But we know what Middy was guarding. He was guarding Silvertear Falls, where the seal on the aether was placed, which was broken by the Agrius being rammed through him and into the seal. That's why there are beast tribe Primals, right? So, maybe the seal on the aether was like a dam, causing aetherial energy to pool near Silvertear, which is why the Crystal Tower was built so close to it. They probably used a lot of aether to create their massive solar energy collecting satellite (aka Dalamud), which stayed in geosynchronous orbit with Syrcus Tower, which was a giant antenna built to absorb and distribute the energy beamed down from Dalamud. That energy then powered their entire civilization, so they really didn't need aetherial energy after it was built. It'd totally make sense to me if they built Dalamud in Silvertear Lake right next to the Crystal Tower and on Middy's doorstep, and launched it into orbit from there.

EDIT: If the above is true, then the reason the Allagan Empire left Middy alone is they wanted the aether to be dammed right there. But, if the aether was dammed and sealed, how did Bahamut get summoned? Was it possible because of the way Dalamud had collected Aether? Huh... I guess I'm wrong about the above, because that just doesn't make sense =\

Considering what he did to the Garlean fleet for even trying to claim the area... seems like an unlikely project for him to allow to be completed on his doorstep, without some reason. What reason, though? Could be anything at this point, with how little we know.

But FFXIV geography is weird, and while the Crystal Tower looks to be damn near on top of Silvertear Lake in-game, that could (in "real" measurements) be malms and malms and malms from the area Mrgrmr cared to guard. Maybe.

That's what really gets to me, because we know what Crystal Tower was eventually adapted to be; A Voidgate for the Cloud of Darkness to claim Eorzea from. Basically it turned into an end of the world device, but Middy was cool with that? The way Xandes spoke also made it sound like Meracydia was the last place to fall. Dravania fell before hand? There was no Rising Chorus to unite all Dragons against Allag, yet we have one to unite them all against the (vastly inferior, I think) Ishgard? That really doesn't add up to me, really wish I could question the smug little minion over history... /sigh

No. I much prefer the idea that Middy came after, and was guarding the Tower itself (which technically was sealed below Mor Dhona, if the whole seal business even got carried over into 2.0). Garlemald constructs Bozja Citadel with the help of Cids father in an attempt to tap into Dalamud; Effectively creating a copy of Crystal Tower, albeit an imperfect one which blows up in their face. Then they fly the Agrius over Mor Dhona? Yeah, we can connect the dots here I think. That is an absolutely solid justification for his aggression towards the Garleans. While it would also be true if there was a seal beneath the Falls which he broke (by crashing the Argrius into the seal... not a very good job of guarding it...), he now has no reason to guard that area; Either the seal is gone or we rendered Crystal Tower inert, we stopped the covenant between Xandes and the Cloud of Darkness. There is no reason for him to prevent anyone from trying to access it (and he gave his "life" stopping the Garleans from doing so, though that eventually proved futile).
