Solid State Drive. Imagine massive flash drive with crazy fast read/write speeds in comparison to traditional Disk drives found in our PS4/PS3's out of the factory.

Whatever the 'medium' options are for most of the settings, is my guess. With lower environmental graphic settings (things like grass, stone, water). And it's not using DX, if I'm not mistaken. I keep finding that it's a "Microsoft" (read: PC) thing. The PS4 uses something different- A modified version of OpenGL, from what I'm finding. People say that it supports and is capable of DX11 things.

But the Price difference between an SSD and a HDD is substantial. A 500 gb SSD is normally about $200+, while a 500 gb HDD around $40 bucks. Only thing it help with is load time, performance wise it will pretty be the same.

Tanking is a job, DPSing is a science and Healing is an art.
If the Tank dies, it's the Healer's fault. If the Healer dies, it's the Tank's fault. If the DPS dies, it's their own damn fault.

A Hybrid drive "may" load it faster (not 100% sure) but usually has a short life span. I am looking at upgrading my hd to 1 or 2tb's in the near future

The last review (kind of old but not much more recent Speed Test Comparison ) I read about converting the HDD in a PS4 to an SSD or a Hybrid were pretty unphenomenal to say the least. This early in the console's lifespan, it didn't seem like the games that were tested really showed to much of an improvement, and not only that but the variances differed between all three. Some things were actually quicker on the stock HDD!

Just putting this out there for you, Pomelo and Peachy. I would maybe try and research how the {upgrade?} would affect this game by speaking to others who may have bought it for the specific purpose of playing FFXIV. I like the link I posted because it makes comparisons with multi-player games with high activity (such as CoD and Battlefield) and would be the closest similarity to an MMO in terms of high volume and high action. I ultimately didn't upgrade because of this link, simply because I don't care about hunts enough to worry about zoning in 10 seconds faster I am quite content with PS4 load times in this game unless there is 1,000 people in a zone.

If you want to throw down a couple hundred on the upgrade for that, or maybe to futureproof against games that may come out in a year or two that is utilizing the full power of the console then go for it! But either way, it's a decent monetary investment to just go in blindly. I would do my due diligence and research it beforehand.

    Just my 2 gil

Cant find the thread, but Yoshi addressed this on Ps4 game launch. PS4 is a completely different platform, apples to oranges kind of thing. But if we attempt to compare, it is spec'd to operate Heavensward/ARR as a high end PC would with Dx11.

PS4 is equivalent to low/mid-range PC. It has it own custom API which is already to Metal. (means minimal latency overhead on rendering).

Most likely what PS4 will get is the Parallax Mapping & Tesselation.

What PS4 won't have is the HBAO+, Full detail distance surface reflections (I'm sure this is capable but too much resources and unconfirmed). Anything that requires more memory.

Aside from that, PC is still have a huge overhead in rendering even in DX11 but their hardwares are far powerful to push and keep up the framerates.

DX12 is where PC is going to be to Metal just like the optimized API on consoles, therefore, it will increase in performances even more ahead this summer 2015 around July Windows 10 releases.

This is also why Xbox One and PS4 from the corporate said there won't be a huge gain for consoles since the API done. There is no such thing as download more rams.
