Just had the worst Steps of Faith experience

First thing I ask when we start duty: who's new, who's on cannons, who's on missiles

Only reply I get is "just go push buttons"

Abandon was finally passed at the 12 minutes mark. Never got anywhere close to a kill.
No one spoke up beside me, other than to just tell me to shut it.

Really impressed that no one quit and I sure wasn't gonna give them the free pass myself while taking a penalty.

Honestly I hope they don't nerf the fight; I'd like to think that players such as those you describe won't make it into Heavensward with that attitude.

The game has been in desperate need of a gating mechanism of some kind to force lazy players to get their act together and start coordinating for fights and SoF is perfect for it. The trial has no major mechanics dependent on skill alone, it's not like Titan where you have to dodge endless AOEs, it just requires everyone to know their one role in the fight and execute it by interacting with the right environment object at the right time. Any players refusing to coordinate for that fight fully deserve to be stuck there. It's tough love but it's the only way to force some players to actually learn how to play in a group setting.

For the few poor souls that really try but keep getting stuck with idiots I would simply suggest either trying the PF or getting some friends or FC members to help. It's a fairly quick and easy fight if everyone knows what they're doing.

This population needs, badly, an investigation as to whether the 82 RMT outfits who are spamming the crap out of us are getting people buying characters, because the level of players who don't even deserve a Level 50, much less an ilevel one hundred and something, truly makes me fear for the future of this game.

It's time to stop accumulating character numbers when half of them (I hope it's not that, but would not be shocked!) are RMT and a lot of the rest should belong back in Vana'diel.

I doubt this is the case.
SoF has a learning curve. People who are legitimately new to it will wipe at least once. The problem is people going into SoF drop when they zone in, or drop after 1 wipe, so there's no opportunity to learn for them with one consistent group.
Plus some people just don't care. They want to finish fast and move on. SoF doesn't have any tangible reward after the first time other than tomes, so there's not a lot of drive there.

Some of us wiped to it far more than once, and with people who wouldn't listen if you threw the damn instructions up on neon signs.
