Next time I see another nin in party I'm going to float the trick attack question, I see some folk just not using it, and others do use it, but we just happen to hit it at the same time >_<;;

Also. Have you perhaps thought about the fact the guy was just joking?... I like to joke a lot with the whole lolDRG concept, even when I change job, instead of calling it DRG, I call myself lolDRG. I just can't avoid to do references to that strange lore we have about dying dragoons. xDDDD

Or there's also the chance he was just roleplaying... For example, my character is a bossy lala with goddess complex, and... God, I get my laughts when people takes this too seriously and start insulting, etc...

Example:
*PvP battle starts*
My character: "Be glad, you're partying with me, the nameless adventurer, most awesome lalafell in whole Eorzea!..."
*Battle ends, nameless has 22/0*
My character: "As expected! We obviously won thanks to me after all!"
Angry party member: "SHUT THE FUCK UP, NO LIFER".

Example, and this one really happened:
*Nameless heroine joins to tam tara in progress, with arcanist noobish 15 and noobish gear. Does her typical overly-extreme cocky salute and the party members...*
"If you are so good, go and solo the boss"
My character: "Hmpf! It's okay, Topaz, your time to shine, enjoy the show!"
*after 10 minutes of boring long fight*
Party members: "Get a life"

It's incredible funny how they tend to insult the player, for the personality of the character. xD

I don't know where do you get all these people in your parties, whenever I have another Ninja in my party they always use Huton, and the use of Doton on single targets it's not a huge deal tbh, sure, Raiton is the best option in there but meh.

The only problem I see with Ninjas sometimes, is that some of them don't use their combos in order or don't bother with the DoTs and debuffs that their skills apply in combos, most of the time I only see them using Spinning Edge> Gust Slash> Aeolian Edge, over and over again without using anything else.
