For the record, cross server communication via in-game message system(and through POL) is possible in FFXI. I don't know why this isn't allowed in FFXIV, probably because of conflict with the JP servers.. who knows.

Now we're gonna twist the definition around to make ourselves feel better about not communicating with others?

I played FFXI for 9 years from the very beginning and this game since 1.0... I was like some that came to 14 and expected ffxi v2. After awhile you accept the game for what it is and happy it wasn't just a rehash. Some dig the ffxi grind and other aspects of it and others were glad to get out of it especially what it became in the later years.

I found 11 to be very social and that included all the event related ls's like dynamis, sky, limbus and your social but I really miss xp pt's. Yeah it was a grind but could spend hours pt'ing not just with friends and ls members but other players from the server. There were plenty of chances to take a break and chat even for non voip. I felt there was less hate going around.. you were in a way held accountable since it wasn't cross server raids where you would never see them again. I guess it was like having server rep. .make of it what you will.

Fates don't make up for xp pt's and dungeons as great as they are in this game are just very unsociable unless you static. I have FC members who I've yet to see their characters lol. I get why Yoshi went the way he did with 2.0 and I'm grateful the game didn't die @ 1.0 but all dungeons is just a social killer. The FC house has some traffic but a lot go to their private homes. Ahh the memories of pt'ing until the am hours on the weekends in 11 and meeting a lot of good fun people and in a sense building quality, long term relationships that made the server that much better.

I honestly.. have hardly any long lasting good memories from this game.. some dungeon and crafting accomplishments I guess but nothing like I still have after all these years from 11. I guess that's another thing.. achievements and content/rewards (gear/tools/weapons) that lasts 4-6 months then is obsolete for the most part isn't very satisfying or I don't take much pride in anything in this game except some crafting achievements and my luminary rod from 1.0 which was made a joke soon after. (still bitter fishing was turned into some ridiculous time waster lol)

When you feel like you are forcing yourself to have fun.. that's a problem but I have Heaven preordered so we'll see. Oh and I have various ls's.. a fishing ls, a choc racing ls. Some died.. some are very quiet or nonresponsive. Mostly it seems people are just busy in dungeons all the time and of course they don't have time to chat.

This. So much this, my words exactly. 8 man raid content makes small statics with occasional pick ups. Dyna, sky abyssea required people. if you didn't make it, there were always others as long as you had a few dedicated tanks. FATES, yes i could team up but then i miss my duty que potential for more exp, or i could have my chocobo but same thing. lv grind pts are a thing of 1.0 and coils requires teams that know what there doing and know the people they do it with. I love XIV and have no plan on quitting but id love for heavensward to have a little more of the xi feel and a little less of 4/8man man dungeon spam grind. In XI I had pts I stayed in as long as 21 hours. Not that I still want or have time for this mind you but I most definitely felt a higher level of companionship with my friends and servermates there.

No, not solved. You do that and suddenly you have new players hopelessly shouting in the world or on PF trying to find people who would be willing to clear story content with them. But everyone's in Heavensward and there's suddenly no incentives to go back and do said content, so the newbies get stuck.

Even without DF the quick-run mentality would still exist because the few who would return to do the content would want it done fast and the newbies want to rush to catch up. It's not the method that's the problem, it's the people themselves. I've had some great solo DF cues where the people were very chatty. I've had others where you could hear a pin drop.

I agree we should be able to friend and communicate with people we meet in DF across servers. It's dumb we can't. But in most MMOs I've played you're not going to get the kind of social experience the OP seems to want in a PUG, plain and simple.

I kinda wish we had something else than Coil in XIV.

Maybe Yoshi could give us something similar what XI had, like Dynamis?

Highly unlikely. He has his vision and it's not going to change drastically out of the dungeon mode. I'd love to play again before the expansion but gardening, dungeons, chicken racing, fishing and on and on is just repetitive, easy boring content but I'll be playing again come the expansion cause I can't help myself.

Where did you even get that idea?

I'm just saying things you can do to be a social-able person in the game. Is chatting the only thing to express your sociability?

If you had just jumped into this thread without prior knowledge of what have been said and randomly quoting me, then please note that the post was with reference to a salty poster a few pages back who can't feel happy for people in the game and complains that the game ain't social.

Yes chatting is my only way. Non verbal gestures do not work. Bigger problem is the high chance of being ignored, which leads to this:

I've turned off my LS/FC chat because I get ignored in them anyway, so tells and say are pretty much the only forms of chatting I have right now. Can get very lonely as I can go days at a time not saying anything.

Now by design, this game doesn't support socializing well, nor do these forums. Maybe you all should ask Yoshida what's up with that.
