Yoshi-P & Dev Team give us fun holiday events!

I personally enjoyed this summer event, and it made me get in touch with some nice people. Im fairly new to FFXIV with about 1,5months of gametime so far. Coming here from WoW after 5-6years.
The summer event in WoW felt way more grindy. Daily quests in order to collect 50-100 tokens to buy seasonal gear/items just gets so boring and for the boss WoW puts in to kill just makes people queue up to kill it over and over, with almost no interaction with the other players in the group thanks to the Dungeon Finder pairing you up with some nice, but mostly obnoxious people.

Getting new gear to improve ones character is ofc nice, but WOW just feels way to gear focused to my liking. I couldnt pause to even enjoy completing my full Tier 11 heroic gear for my DK only to have Tier12 and higher rated gear make em all pointless all over. Even the very easy and boring questline with Thrall threw a shiny new epic cloak at people. Just for a 20min quest.

I prefer the more lighthearted enjoyment I get from FFXIV and wont go back to WoW even if FFXIV ends up the worst possible way and gets shut down.

People all have different likes / dislikes, and it will always hit or miss with some players.

Well I had a different experience with the WoW holidays because it had content for all the players. It was more in depth and had stuff you could do solo and stuff you could do as a group. What killed the boss fight in for some was the Dungeon Finder because of what the DF is. Personally I had some good experiences even using the DF because I ran into some cool peeps but I know how that goes I could have just as likely ran into pure elitist pricks.

You are actually comparing the two games wholly and I am not I am speaking only of all holiday events and how they bring more content than not. I want to see all classes and players to be able to join in and have fun whether it via solo holiday content or it be with a group, also I would like to depend on the DoL/H to be a part of the event. That would make it feel alot more FFXIV like. With more content that wouldn't make it any less lighthearted it would just please more people.

I just want more content for holiday events that utilize solo play and group content. I would like to see more mini games and even some quests added that add more meaning behind the events that are going on and that add more lore to Eorzea. If I ran this holiday event I would have made it similar but added stuff for DoH/L to do and would have added a bomb NM to fight and the DoH/L could do emotes at it during the fight to anger the mob and make him go berserk for a short time. Then the DD could go nuts and burn the mob down and it may take 2-3 berserk phases for you to drop him depending on the amount of ppl doing the event. This bomb would drop some special loot and materials for making the best swim suits. Maybe the loot would be fireworks or other odds and ends that all players who helped during the fight would receive by talking to an NPC. Just by adding more content could the event really blossom into something it currently is not. Maybe the design team don't want to put that much effort into it but I really do want to hear from them for future content relating to holidays if any they have in store for us. Also this wouldn't be all the events done this way just certain ones, you would still have half or more of your events done in the normal way they are done now.

Not sure what you're talking about OP but I'm having a blast in this summer event. If you're leeching the ash then obviously its not fun, its suppose to be a fun event with your friends or with your linkshell. Not our fault that you couldn't find the fun out of it and I agree that the holiday events in WoW are huge daily grindfests...at least this one you can do it as many times as you want.

The holiday events in FFXI and FFXIV are horrendous and boring at the same time. I understand maybe the Japanese player base may understand these events more than the rest of the FFXIV player base because they are made after Japanese holiday events for the most part. Yoshi-P has played games like WoW and other Western style MMOs so I would figure he would understand what the mass would consider fun and not a complete waste of time. This might be taboo to some but the point is very valid, World of Warcraft holiday events are light years ahead of anything FF has to offer. They are fun and rewarding and some actually let you fight some semi complicated bosses and get loot that is good for your character. Like the Halloween event lets you goto a instance and that is a graveyard and lets you summon the headless horseman. Once you fight him and kill him he drops loot and a chance of a mount. I don't expect something to that extreme for FFXIV but I would love to see holiday events I actually want to participate in.

Summer event on here is such a waste of time I sit there and craft and leech the Ash and I don't care about being a contribution to the event because it lacks anything that makes me want to be a part of it. WoW's summer event has so much more you can do, from fun daily minigames/quests that when you finish give you tokens and when you get enough tokens you can buy all kinds of items with. Mostly cosmetic pleasures or fireworks and what not and also it has a boss that you can go and due and have a chance to get a nice piece of gear. Again I don't expect the exact same type of content in FFXIV but I just want to see something that gets everyone participating in and having fun and sometimes have the possibility to get a piece of gear (that can only be acquired at this event) that actually has some level of usefulness.

Also I am just comparing the two games via holiday events in example of so my point could be made clear. That is my only intention I have no intention of trying to create some silly flame war.

Ever played the Fire Festival "Holiday Event" in WoW?

It makes you run to around 70 areas all around the world to light up a camp fire!

What makes it worse is the fact that it's tied to achievements...so a lot of people felt obliged to do it, to get the achievements(points) for it, although they HATE the actual event...I was one of em...

in ffxi i enjoyed doing the events the first time, it was my first mmo to begin with too. even when i look back i think some of them were still pretty entertaining. ...but not really. but this event we got now is boring and horrid. hopefully they get more better, needs to be exciting, let there be possible deaths, and way more party interactions, maybe it's because the servers are empty too, used to love seeing cities full of people during event weeks. maybe it's cause i played a pvp game after ffxi, warhammer and every event sent u to into battle areas so they were really fun, cause u just kill people all day doing them. can't get any funner then that. also wish events would change every year, but i think that might be asking a bit much lol. ...but yeah boring

maybe se should have a contest and let us think of events and how they should work and then se chooses the winners. think that would be a fun thing to do. i bet most of us can think of much funner things then they are.

SE is still in the middle of game rebuild. So I can understand, that we have only the bombs for the summer event 2011.
But I hope we would have in the summer event 2012 more attractions with goldfish scooping and yukatas ^^

my favorite one in ffxi i think was the one where it ported groups in the middle of mob filled zones with invisible on and puts u at rank1 and u need to do things in the time b4 invis wears off. was pretty exciting and fun at the time. maybe some stuff like this would be cool.
