Yoshi-P & Dev Team give us fun holiday events!

The holiday events in FFXI and FFXIV are horrendous and boring at the same time. I understand maybe the Japanese player base may understand these events more than the rest of the FFXIV player base because they are made after Japanese holiday events for the most part. Yoshi-P has played games like WoW and other Western style MMOs so I would figure he would understand what the mass would consider fun and not a complete waste of time. This might be taboo to some but the point is very valid, World of Warcraft holiday events are light years ahead of anything FF has to offer. They are fun and rewarding and some actually let you fight some semi complicated bosses and get loot that is good for your character. Like the Halloween event lets you goto a instance and that is a graveyard and lets you summon the headless horseman. Once you fight him and kill him he drops loot and a chance of a mount. I don't expect something to that extreme for FFXIV but I would love to see holiday events I actually want to participate in.

Summer event on here is such a waste of time I sit there and craft and leech the Ash and I don't care about being a contribution to the event because it lacks anything that makes me want to be a part of it. WoW's summer event has so much more you can do, from fun daily minigames/quests that when you finish give you tokens and when you get enough tokens you can buy all kinds of items with. Mostly cosmetic pleasures or fireworks and what not and also it has a boss that you can go and due and have a chance to get a nice piece of gear. Again I don't expect the exact same type of content in FFXIV but I just want to see something that gets everyone participating in and having fun and sometimes have the possibility to get a piece of gear (that can only be acquired at this event) that actually has some level of usefulness.

Also I am just comparing the two games via holiday events in example of so my point could be made clear. That is my only intention I have no intention of trying to create some silly flame war.

...yeah daily quests for a token grind sounds soooo much more fun than swimsuits/emote minigame and fireworks.

Seasonal Events are meant to be able to be done by anyone crafter/gatherer/new player alike, and are mere distractions. I think this is the best seasonal event by far in FFXIV (the bells were just stupid). I'd rather not have them produce useful (needed) gear beyond the event/novelty factor because not everyone likes to do this kind of stuff, and I don't want to feel like I am missing out on something if I am doing something more productive/not online to do the event during its time. There were a few seasonal rewards like in the past in XI I think maybe, one of which I did not get and I always regretted it (maybe I'm thinking of a different game), seasonal events should just be fun extra little distractions not part of the overall game's itemization. That WoW event sounds absolutely terrible.

how about you do some research and stop being lazy, so you can enjoy these events, I enjoy them and I live in Texas.....

I had fun with the summer event. As a matter of fact I'm going to do it again with my 2nd character in about 20 minutes :/

I do agree having more to it wouldn't hurt, but they have more important things to concentrate on right now. i.e. more content, travel options, battle tweaks, advanced jobs, an AH and mail system for crying out loud lol.

The summer event is 10 steps above the stupid bells. Maybe next summer it will be longer and more involved with more minigames, but hopefully after they've fixed most of the problems.

Harder to explain than actually experience since I kind of lack at explaining exactly how much more fun the events are, you could problem youtube any of the events and tell by watching them that they are 100 times more thought out than any holiday event on FFXI or XIV.

Being lazy? I lived in Japan for over a month and I understand and know their culture and actually planning to go into Japanese linguistics in the very near future. My point was that they tend to be more fun to the Japanese players and they should look into developing some of their events to be a bit more westernized since majority of their players are from either Europe or US.

Majority of the people I know think the the holiday events suck compared to other games or just in general but also majority of those people never log onto the forums on the Lodestone. I bring this up because I am one of the many who do and thought it would be a good idea to post here, this was not supposed to be a flame thread yet it is already starting to turn into one.

Okay I do understand how some could be entertained for maybe an hours worth of time. @ Kit, yes I understand what you said as well, this was more of a look into it for the future kind of post. I am simply asking people agree or disagree not a reply that invokes a negative rebuke which has happened and I apologize for. Ofcourse, I wouldn't want holiday events to take a priority over what is being worked on now but it is one of the many things in MMOs I look forward too as they get closer because those events allow you to break away from the normal routine of your game time and allow you to do something with others you wouldn't normally associate with or enjoy the game in a different way by yourself. But these events are lacking severely to what has become a normal in most MMO's that I have played.

That isn't throwing flames, that is speaking simple facts. Not once in my original post did I ever belittle any individuals or said something that would make anyone take offense to other than maybe the people who designed those poorly designed events.
