Too bad that wheel has fallen on deaf ears because it's already set is stone.
Devs would probably just reply "Because lore..." that's their story and they're sticking to it.
Whole talk has been Ad nauseam.
Coulda, shoulda, woulda but it's already happening.
Was a nice debate though...We'll see how devs take it come next expac.
I just want 3.0 out. xD

It's still 9 weeks out, so it's possible that they could alter things, although it is incredibly unlikely.Too bad that wheel has fallen on deaf ears because it's already set is stone.

If it does turn out that nearly the entirety of 3.0 is gated behind the MSQ, it won't go over well.
I'm fine with. Took the time to get caught up. Got like 9 weeks, yah?
Seems like the issue is on our side, a lack of planning on your part doesn't something something dark side.

For a pointless debate, you sure seem to have a lot of investment in it. Your post count in this thread is nearly double mine!
I'd say most, possibly even ALL of the players who have posted in this thread have ALREADY completed the 2.55 storyline. No one here is whining about things they themselves want to have without working for it. We've all done the work already, we've done the planning, and the dark side is no danger.
The concern is months from now, long after Heavensward release, new players who consider buying Heavensward along with the base game but turn it down because there's nothing worthwhile for them until they've played the base game for quite a while. Do they pay 20$ for the base game, or 40$ for the Heavensward/base game combo pack? Smart buyers will pay $20 - there's no guarantee that they'll like the base game, and the expansion is useless to them until after possibly months of casual play. Making the new jobs accessible would be a reason to buy the 40$ game instead of the 20$ - the expansion ISN'T useless, as there's three new jobs to try out in addition to the ten jobs/classes in the original set.
Even if they decide they don't like the game and quit, there's still that up-front payment. And who knows? Maybe a new player would have had more fun playing as one of the new jobs than as any of the old, and would have stuck with it if they'd only been able to play as AST or whatever.
Again, let's not confuse "Something for the newbies to chew on" with "Allow newbies access to everything current players can access". Yes, there ARE things for which one should be gated behind the storyline. New jobs didn't HAVE to be among these things, but SE decided to make it so. I and others found this decision to be questionable.errmm i guess you miss the point....heavenwards is the expansion of FF14.... then it's not a new game, it's the continuity of what we have already. if people want to get there, they need to reach this point in the story. it's like ask to have acces to a story without do what did happend before. people that will start it will feel left out and will not understand what happend. it's worst than all for a game where story is soo much important.
There may be issues behind the scenes that lead to this decision which would make sense if we knew them. But we don't. So, confusion, disappointment, and a 54-page thread results.

hmm i don't see why? i means for get acces to the new extreme you need to do the MSQ, for get access to some of the new dungeon you need to do the MSQ. it's not new, it's simply people are complaining for what? for people that will arrive later, because it's unfair for them to do what? the story of the game....
you can complain all you want, say it's not fair and stuff like this. but i will be blunt, FF14 is a mmorpg driven by the story, then get stuff gated behind story is natural. when you have start to play it was said. they already was nice to not gate the ninja behind 2.2 MSQ, because people was crying... but it need to stop, we are talking about advanced JOB not class. if you want to get them, you need to reach the point where you can get them. that as simple than this.
by the way, i'm curious, why people don't complain about the fact that the other jobs recquire to have 1 class 30 and 1 to 15 before you can get them? because that not that much different...
ps: by the way, all the 3.0 is gated behind the last quest of the 2.55.... guess why? because it's after the 2.55, it's the next step of the story! it will have no sense to have people get into ishgarde right after they get to 50!

For an online game to survive, they need to keep bringing in new players as well as retaining current players. An expansion is a great opportunity to recruit new people.hmm i don't see why? i means for get acces to the new extreme you need to do the MSQ, for get access to some of the new dungeon you need to do the MSQ. it's not new, it's simply people are complaining for what? for people that will arrive later, because it's unfair for them to do what? the story of the game....
New people will buy the game based on the trailers for the jungle gym, and put down $60 or so for the sandbox and jungle gym. They could have just spent $20 on the sandbox access, because that's all they will be able to do for a few weeks. All the big kids are off playing at the jungle gym. They're stuck in the sandbox with the other toddlers, and can't even peek through the fence at the jungle gym, all they have is a few pictures of it.
It's seen as a bait and switch, generates negative buzz, and affects growing the player base in a negative way.
I don't see how it does.
I can guess Square doesn't either.
Reasonable to assume the guys with MBAs wouldn't allow them to make that kind of decision.

Because no major game franchise has ever done something to alienate their new and/or existing players, because the MBAs won't let them.
