Pretty sure it was just the lighting that made his hair look white.I wouldn't say it was white but you're right, it is paler. His beard has also grown out a bit more than one would expect in a matter of days. The devs said:
"Q3: When you first start up FINAL FANTASY XIV: Heavensward, how long has it been since the end of the main scenario quest in Patch 2.55?
A3: It has been about a few days to a few weeks (Eorzean time) since the end of the main scenario quest in Patch 2.55."
(Yes, I misremembered about it being just a couple of days too.)
Maybe more time passes within the storyline itself, or he's still in there a number of patches later and the trailer's jumping ahead..? I dunno.
As for the beard... well, maybe he is just one of those men that grows hair really quickly?
I seriously don't understand why people hate the Highlander so much when he has only served to be the representation of our character and the default appearance of the Warrior of Light since 1.0 era.
I won't be surprised if later during a future X.X main scenario if they pull a all 1.0 to 3.0 or 4.0 or whatever X.0 event was just our character experiencing the Highlander's life through the Echo so they can create a stand alone X.X Main Scenario that serves as both a continuation and a new storyline while making the Highlander and his friends into actual NPC characters for the Main Scenario.
This would be amazingly stupid/annoying and would cheapen the story until that point. Mercifully, I don't imagine that's the case.I seriously don't understand why people hate the Highlander so much when he has only served to be the representation of our character and the default appearance of the Warrior of Light since 1.0 era.

Or maybe Raubahn has white hair and merely dyes it black. Since he has no access to beauty products in prison his natural color comes out.
He is not a highlander. The 1.0 cinematic calls him midlander. As for the hate: Most likely because a white hyur midlander male is the least imaginatice choice for a player character out of all the possible combinations.
I think that decision was made on purpose so that he would be both recognisable and simultaneously easily dismissible so the player could overlay their own character on top of him. He's so average in every possible way that he's a blank slate to many.
They could have easily made him a female roe with polka dotted hair if they wanted something more iconic and memorable, but they chose a different strategy and I think it works. He'd never be a stand in for my Crystal here, but hey, he is for many other people.
I like him in his own character's right, watching his personal story unfold, just like I'd like watching a friend play the same game but making different choices.
me all i see it's the death of nanamo and the fact that Raubahn is alive is the only point of the 2.55 story arc they are confirming. making me wonder what did happend to the other scion, dead or alive, i guess we will not know before the 3.x
So did Derplander's party disband? =o
It is a standard race. Nothing specific, nothing that stand out. Perfect as an "he-who-represent-every-player"
