I wouldn't say it was white but you're right, it is paler. His beard has also grown out a bit more than one would expect in a matter of days. The devs said:
"Q3: When you first start up FINAL FANTASY XIV: Heavensward, how long has it been since the end of the main scenario quest in Patch 2.55?
A3: It has been about a few days to a few weeks (Eorzean time) since the end of the main scenario quest in Patch 2.55."
(Yes, I misremembered about it being just a couple of days too.)

Maybe more time passes within the storyline itself, or he's still in there a number of patches later and the trailer's jumping ahead..? I dunno.
