Such a shame Capcom and Nintendo own the rights.

Content too hard? Too much rng? Too much effort for the item you want?
A flying gondola like the one from ffix that the black waltz uses, the character stands and steers with the rudder. I would like to see a serpentine flying mount, like the Falcor or the Eastern style dragons. Or a mount that "runs" through the air on a self made magicked walkway, like the ones we see in dungeons but it I created and disappears as you move. For humourous reason a flying turtle that spins a la Gamera.
THIS!... Make it so you can have certain skills for moving in the area, changing either in time-speed or, even being the same but at least different look... It'd be cool to give some special movement utility to jobs at 60.... PLEASE!
(Well.. Dragoon could have super cool enhanced jump too?)
And allow ninjas using the level 40 job skill which's name I forgot to teleport to longest distances and also to different terrain areas... ( I mean, if you're in a roof, and you want to teleport to another roof, you'll fail and teleport down it...)
Gives us cool own movement without need of mounts!
This image speaks for itself and represents a wonderful era in my childhood

a phoenix Maybe as a "Healed X# Roulette" achievement not quite the tank mount number? ;p

wings. idk how but wings.
@Lisotte flying wrecked wow: Flying didn't wreck wow, PVP with flight wrecked wow because Gankers. That is all. Flying was fantastic
"Welcome to the ranks of the blue mages. However, at this moment you are but an empty vessel--a base creature, weaker than the most ordinary mortal. A blue mage must wrest her strength and vitality from her enemies. Show me your hunger for unrivaled power! This is the only guidance I shall give you."
~ Final Fantasy XI Treasures of Aht Urhgan
Flying mounts destroy all MMO's, because now there are no monsters to pwn you with. At least Mabinogi had flying monsters over the hot springs (that in itself was a game you needed to shoot them from air balloons with)
My preference would be somewhere along the line of:
Personal "Wings" (eg Angel/Fairy (large white feathers or Butterfly-like,) Bird/Cherub (Small white/pink/blue feathers), Bat/Demon/Dragon/Moogle (Leathery, different positions/colors), which are only practical for short distances, and act more like a parachute/glider), but if hit or stunned you fall out of the sky. Such wings would let you still cast magic using a wand but not a staff.
Mounted flying pet - eg Dragon, Griffon, Brooms/Staves, Clouds, Pegasus, Jetpacks, which have more mobility, but can't cast magic from them.
Airship - Preferable if large airships could only be built and piloted by FC's (Think back to FF6,) small airships must still be crafted by the player or maybe discovered a la Relic Quest. Combat would be possible on either but the small personal airship will just drift if you enter combat. Maybe large airships could be built with cannons.
This ventures into "flying as a skill" instead of a mount.
I think a "self" flying wouldn't be like wings or a mount, so I don't think that would work. A "hover" skill that gives the same effect as BRD's swiftsong may make sense for MNK. SCH/SMN/ACN could probably have "flying" as a pet, where the pet just forms wings and they can continue to do everything they would normally do, just they would lack any combat assistance from it. WHM/BLM could be able to literately ride a staff if they are using one, or "hover" ... WHM already does it when casting Holy. MCH likewise could have a support machine that does hover. The Bard's most logical one is a cloud or wings that come from a song (but may have morbid implications.) This largely leaves the Melees and Tanks without a skill option that would make sense in the context of the world. All of these "hover/fly" options would use MP or TP the same as Sprint, and would mainly be an alternative to using Sprint, except it gives the ability to "fly short distances/fall without taking damage."
Lalafell jet-pack, please. Can be steam punk themed or vernier thrusters a la mobile suits (of Allagan origin?). With a selection of aviator eye wear, preferably.
And, shouldn't the Ahriman be able to fly?
I vote ROFLcopter.
* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
