When you can have someone calling moves it makes it to where everything can perform better and faster as you don't have to pay as much attention to said moves (in terms of looking out for it).
It's not even remotely essential, and most people who do use voice chat do it because they simply enjoy talking to their teammates, not because they need to be told what to do during the fight.
