Every weapon already has a set weapon damage, Monks and Ninjas dual wielding would mean their weapon damage is being lowered to compensate for the second slot. You'd now need 2 weapons to have the same DPS you had before, which would cause people to not only whine but hate RNG more, as Dragoon would stay relevant with just the one weapon. Now, if you want only the main hand to be your damage, then the offhand would just be a stat stick, and really not needed

Not necessarily. It's just a percentage change on the backend. As most games use the primary weapon for abilities then apply percentages for auto attacks.

People will always whine. Need a better argument than this.

Logic is the key thing here. I equip a dagger to my Main Hand but then when I draw I have a weapon in both hands. Where did that weapon come from? Do I have magic hands?

No, most MMOs apply both weapons to their attacks. Rogue in WoW? Their attacks are 65% of their Main and Offhand weapon, they attack with each weapon for each auto attack. Thats why they attack so fast before they get Haste in their stats. Rift works similarly and so do the Solo Games like Dragon Age.

Bringing up Logic and comparing it to the Icon is laughable. The Icon is a dagger, cool. The icon in FF9 is a single dagger too, and yet Zidane dualwields just fine. It doesn't have to be an exact match to an icon, the Titan weapon is called Cleavers of the Crag to show that it's multiple weapons. Same with the Monk weapons as well. If you wanted to use the offhand slot, you'd have to lower the stats of the weapon to let the offhand compensate otherwise they'd have bonus stats no one else has. Conjurer Wands, Gladiator swords have lower secondary stats to accommodate for you having the Shield. For the Paladin, the Shield is actually required for their defense and used in some of their actions so it makes sense, it doesn't make sense for the other classes to have the offhand used.

Now, the Samurai suggestion about a Wakizashi would be cool. Maybe have it like a shield, but increase the amount of damage they parry similar to block, it'd warrant the offhand slot. Just putting an item there with free stats serves no purpose other then "You have to get this slot filled as well".

Then the icon should take up both main hand and off hand slots. It's not just an icon it is the logic behind having something in your main and off hands. The way it appears graphically is it is main hand only and we have a slot open. Gladiator doesn't feel that way at all.

Agreed you would have to lower the stats. But that is how hard? Also it would allow for more flexibility when gearing. The main weapon damage doesn't necessarily change as it is all in the programming. The shield is essentially a stat stick just like your referring to minus the block. That is really the only factor.

You know how Square has said that we can't have better storage space because of server space? So, why would us having to make all these items make that any better. For every main hand you'd have an offhand. So, we're doubling the items there. And yes, the Shield is a stat stick, but it's a stat stick that makes sense.Daggers and Claws are already labeled as a pair, so making them a single weapon and then adding new weapons for the offhand doesn't make sense. As it stands right now, the only Stat stick that would make sense would be a Bard and Quivers, and even then it's not really necessary as it doesn't impact any of their moves or change anything like a Shield does for a Gladiator and a Paladin.

It shouldn't have to cover your Offhand, while dualwielding the Claws and Daggers, or using a Bow or Spear. That's just being picky for the sake of being picky.

    Pretty much this.

There's no reason not to consider that weapon slot for additional equipment (off hand weapon or other) for some classes. The player data bloat argument is pretty much invalid since this is already done in all the DOH & two DOL classes.

As it sits right now, only the MAD/WAR and LNC/DRG actually put both hands on his two-handed weapon. The ROG/NIN & PUG/MNK sort of do but it's actually two separate weapons. Visually, the ACH/BRD, CNJ/WHM*, THM/BLM* & ARC/SCH/SMN all hold thier two-handed weapons with one hand. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, but you could differentiate the classes more by giving some of them main and off-hand options.

*I do realize there is some 1-handed equipment for these classes. However, none of that equipment is commonly considered "end game" capable. I wish it were - cuz I would use it.
