Did no one ever notice the NPC that says..

"I heard they're plotting an assassination on the Sultana!" He's whispering it to someone.

I thought people would of noticed him way before the patch, sadly not.

My guess is they discovered the Sultana's plan through the handmaiden and realised she had to be removed quickly. Setting things up to shut us down was just two birds with one stone. If the Monetarists are after Omega weapon they probably would have guessed we wouldn't be willing to let them have or use it.

How badly things COULD have gone. Interference does not have to mean all-out slaughter. The fact that Kan-E-Senna was running off screen before the camera could even pan in that direction, and that Merlwyb uttered nothing more than a curse under her breath (not even directed at any of the perpetrators mind you) is downright appauling. We as a group, the GC leaders, the Scions, the Warrior of Light... WE are the Eorzean Alliance, NOT the Monetarists of Ul'dah. There would be no shattering of that alliance if action was taken, as all the leaders were present in that very room. You forget that this alliance was forged with the purpose of not only unity, but power. There were a lot of significant people in that room who hold a great deal of respect and authority with their own nations as well as the allied ones. These aren't just people off the street who were invited to a party here... There was little to stop the group from resisting and forcing the others into custody themselves, then making a case against the consipirators to present to the people of Ul'dah as well as the rest of the Syndicate (both of which to be honest, hate the Monetarists anyways and would more than likely side with us).

"The right thing" is quite a stretch in this situation.

Taking any physical action against the Monetarists would be the equivalent of an attack on the lawful leaders of Ul'dah by foreign powers. Even Rhabaun's actions were illegal as he killed a syndicate member without any proof of illegal activity. While the Monetarists may not be popular, the other GC leaders getting involved would be the equivalent from a public viewpoint of foreign powers setting up a leader. Rumors alone would leave that leader in a tenuous position rife for civil unrest as they could easily be painted as a foreign puppet. Do remember as well the public just discovered that the second highest ranking Immortal Flame was a Garlean spy.

More to the point the brass blades and the Crystal Braves were both in the Monetarists pocket with the Immortal Flames only having a token force in Ul'dah. Even if the other GC leaders got involved it would be that handful of people against the entire military power in the city. A civil war would almost certainly be assured. The Brass Blades are the police force of Ul'dah and without them the Immortal Flames would be hard pressed to handle maintaining the peace, even if they could be disbanded. There is no way force in that situation could have ended well and frankly probably would have played even more into the Monetarists hands. The Eorzean Alliance would be as good as dead in the water as at best Ul'dah would likely be crippled.

In the end the only solution is for the truth to come out and that requires proof. In a game of politics, brute force will often end in disaster.
