According to the last story quest in Praetorium, after the credits, yes we are in the 7th Astral Era. The last Umbral ended with the defeat of Gaius' legion.
I remember those quests from 1.0 very clearly so I know what era it was referring to. :P It was said very clearly that that's the era Urianger was involved with.

"involved with" - he's a scholar, that could just mean that's the area he's studied the most and he's the world's foremost expert on it. Much like the Sons of St Coinach are experts on the Allegan Empire.

The quest was specifically about "the mage who was responsible" and it turned out to be him. You go to him with to try to get him arrested for his "crimes".

I think I generally prefer Thancred/Y'shtola. Mostly because of the familial love thing with Minfilia. <__<

I agree I got a much bigger Thancred/Y'shtola vibe than him with any one else.

(Also I think he kept flirting with F'lhaminn in 2.0 cause he was so used to, he gives up pretty fast hahaha)
