I personally could see all three new jobs unlocking outside of Ishgard proper. The Astrologian's branch guild already exists - the Observatorium. Machinist could actually be put in Limsa where the old Muskateer's guild was. And Dark Knight could start in Ul'Dah. Or the latter two could start in Coerthas Central Highlands as well.

Previously, Yoshi P had said the only requirement for the new jobs was level 30 on any existing class. That's about the level you head to Coerthas, so that makes total sense to me.

On the other hand, I'm going to be horribly disappointed if the new classes don't start at level 1. I rather like the leveling up process.

If we're going to quote the OP's linked article..

" “We were actually recently deciding what to call these jobs that don’t have a base class, and we’ve decided to call them ‘Extra Jobs.’ Just like when you can switch to different jobs when you’re at level 30, that applies to these as well. As long as any class or job is at level 30, you’ll be able to access any of these three new jobs.” "

    There is no unlock quest.
The Ishgard quests should be for additional skills and story.

    Ill bite.
You also have access to white mage as long as you have conjurer at 30 and arcanist at 15. But you still need to unlock the job via a quest.

In ARR lv1 weapons are untradeable and you have to visit the guild to get it.

Regardless of if you completed 2.55 or not, you can still get into Ishgard and get access to the jobs. You just can't go too far past that. So the surrounding areas and the Heavensward story will be gated behind the 2.55 completion since they tie into the story. But if you completed up to 2.3 lets say...and then you buy Heavensward. You can go into the new city, get your shiny new jobs, then continue on with the story from where you left off with the new jobs (assuming it's been leveled.)

Why are people having so much trouble with this? That was the original answer. The new clarification voids that.

    From the last live letter:

Q: Can I go to Ishgard right after purchasing Heavensward?
A: In order to access Ishgard, you will first need to complete the main scenario quest "Before the Dawn," which will be included in FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn Patch 2.55.

You pulled from a quote that was incorrect and clarified by a response from SE. Here is the entire statement. Correction and original answer.

    Correction:
Naoki Yoshida: You will have to already own A Realm Reborn, plus complete all of the main story quests up through Patch 2.55. After that, an introductory quest for Heavensward will become available; accepting that quest will then guide you through the gates of Ishgard. All of the job quests related to the new jobs will be in Ishgard as well, so the condition to access those will be the same. If a player had stopped playing around Patch 2.2 or 2.3, it would be best to revisit the A Realm Reborn main story quests to get back into the groove as you head towards Heavensward!

Original Answer: If you already own A Realm Reborn and you get Heavensward, you’ll be able to at least enter Ishgard. The new jobs added in Heavensward are not tied to the main story, so those are accessible as well. In terms of the story, if you want to enjoy the Heavensward story arc, since it’s tied to the upcoming 2.55 patch, it’s a prerequisite to have finished that content. If a player had stopped playing around patch 2.2 or 2.3, I’d recommend choosing one of the new jobs and leveling that up while catching up on the story, then transitioning into Heavensward.

The expansion package does not include subscription, unlike how the original Realm Reborn package included 30 days subscription time. You need to buy a subscription anyway to play. I know you're being sarcastic, but sarcasm doesn't work if you're poking in the wrong direction. :3

Now imagine if a newbie can skip everything in 2.0. What does that entail?

Either the newbie will buy the game and start with a Lv 50 character, or Ishgard needs to provide leveling content for Lv 1-50. That is quite a lot more unbelievable than tying 2.0 into 3.0.

For someone who has just purchased the game, would they be able to start with Rogue?
I'd take whatever that situation is as an example of what to see when Heavensward comes.
