Well that's one way to keep the rmt out if they're starting past lvl 1.
And considering they sound like more complex jobs probably best to keep the newest players off them.

I was a bit disappointed as well. I am doing my MSQ's and though they are useful for leveling, there are way too many duty finder requirements, especially considering that it isn't just 2.0 stuff but all the way through 2.55.
So far, forced grouping story quests have been an irritating road block in MSQ completion. I waited almost an hour for story mode Titan; took so long I had to leave before I ever got in. Now, if there were only a few required duties to complete, I wouldn't mind so much. But there are, what, a couple dozen?
I am actually considering putting off completing any more until 3.0, since hopefully then there will be more people playing and leveling. The maybe-possibly coming ability to solo dungeons with your own NPC group would also be a huge help . . . that is, if they don't lock that away behind MSQ completion too.![]()

People have been saying they stated that the new jobs will be playable right out of the box.
So if a new person installs the expansion, they'll have the jobs automatically unlocked. They just won't have access to quested skills until they reach 50 and get into Ishgard.

classes can be changed to immediately, you just need a lv. 1 weapon. Jobs, however, have always been locked behind a quest that gives you the job crystal. I don't know the details about the new jobs, since it sounds like they only require having a class at level 30 or higher, and have no base-class, so it's possible you can switch to the new jobs immediately, but if their guilds are in Ishgard (Coerthas is an outpost of Ishgard not Ishgard proper, as someone has already said, it's much like south shroud is to Gridania), anyone starting a fresh character will be at the start of the ARR story, which is a point in time when Ishgard's gates were still closed to outsiders.
I don't think the fact they are gated behind 2.55 is a big deal in general; it makes sense. However, the final fight in 2.55 requires a minimum item level of 90 in order to enter. That is quite a high requirement for new players that only wish to play one of the new jobs they paid for.
On the other hand you have 3 months to complete 2.55. An ample amount of time.

I think you will come to understand once we get the Heavensward MSQ...That's honestly my question, though. Referring to Dragoon as another example, the main NPC you interact with is found out in Coerthas. Currently jobs don't really have "guilds" to begin with, but they decided to use those for the new jobs while also placing them behind the gates of Ishgard. They could have placed the job quest NPCs out in Coerthas like they did with Dragoon, but they chose not to and for reasons that haven't been explained.
Out of the new jobs mechanist is the only one that could be reasonably acquired outside of Ishgard. (or its new zones)

The current setup for jobs is "they start at lvl 30" and i have to admit i kinda thought this would be the same for the new jobs. The guild are for classes so there is no need to have the new jobs have guildhalls in ishgard. For example, can have the machinist be linked to the garland ironworks and be stationed in revenant's toll. Now i agree that as a current player the new jobs being gated behind the MSQ isn't a big deal but there will probably be new players looking to access the new jobs soon after their purchase and looking towards experiencing the MSQ with said jobs.
As some have said, can't really know what their actual plans are yet, but it also doesn't hurt to constructively give feedback as to why/why not we consider certain decisions as being good or bad. For example a new player that has researched in anticipation for DRK finding out that to play said job he needs to level to 50 and complete 20+ hours of content past said lvl, versus reading he needs to lvl a class to 30 and go do his job quest could critically changed said players willingness to try FF14.

Even without guilds, jobs need a quest NPC to be unlocked, and as reported in the OP, those will be gated inside of Ishgard.
I'd like to hope otherwise, but I sadly expect this is how it will be.
Considering how easily gotten Poetics is likely to become, and how easy Soldiery is now, I don't think that i90 is difficult, even for a brand new 50.I don't think the fact they are gated behind 2.55 is a big deal in general; it makes sense. However, the final fight in 2.55 requires a minimum item level of 90 in order to enter. That is quite a high requirement for new players that only wish to play one of the new jobs they paid for.

I don't like how its gated around completely all the story since it will hinder new players to play the new jobs right away. I personally wanted to run 2.0 stuff as the new jobs. I hope we will get clarification next sat with the producer letter such as what levels the job start as and such.....
