Our passive characters and why the 2.55 story fails (BIG SPOILERS) (rant warning)

They aren't, comparing a primal to a bunch of brass baldes is stupid, you fight much better equipped and trained soldiers all the time whenever you enter a Castrum with no problems, not to mention Odin and Cloud of Darkness.

You were powerless because it was the convenient and lazy way out and that's it, it wasn't justified by anything in the game. That all of a sudden you can't take on a dozen human soldiers is absurd, you routinely fight much worse whenever you walk around in beastmen territories.

To how many primal fights was you send after the meeting with Midgardsormr inside the mainstory ?
Or would you like a giant stat malus (like -75 on all stats) after the Midgardsormr part to give it more immersion?

If we're powerless why are the Scions and the Crystal Braves still leaning on us to take care of all of their problems?

None, so? We're talking about a bunch of Miqo'tes, Roe, Hyur, Lalas and Elezen, not about primals. You're all talking as if after 2.5 we've been so dumbed down that we can't even walk two steps without tripping ourselves. Even if we can't take down a Primal anymore, we can still kill a bunch of much more poweful foes than some Brass Blades and Crystal Bravers.

Alright, allow me to re-phrase: Why am I still SUCCESSFULLY solving theirs and now Ishgards problems?

Next time pay attention to the story instead of rambling on as if nothing happened with midgardsormr.

And you're ignoring that immediately after that, we killed an ascian.

Arms were tied after those guards. We didn\\'t go into that chamber with our arms tied and asses lifted waiting to be taken from behind.

Further, we went and fought a creaking dragon invasion, all of which are substantially stronger than Castrum/beast men. His point stands - we fought far worst without the blessing of light than some low-rank guards.

No, what should have been done was a Suikoden 3 Gendous path. In that game, you are given the option to stay and fight or run away. All your members say that it might be best to run. As you complete fights, your character becomes more and more exhausted, and you get posed the question again and again.

In that game, staying for 3 rounds unlocked an additional group of members. It was a brilliantly done scene compared to this abomination.

Face it: the only thing that made us powerless was the writers convenience.

Didn't we face corrupt city guards before way early in the game and in sidequests? I don't remember political ramifications hampering us then.

Politics. That's all. Hell, if we so much as layed a hand on Teledji, doubt would have spread amongst the people. We were accused of regicide, so resisting would make us seem even more guilty and would have just given them more ammo against you.

Do the english location have another story?
In the german location, we didn't fight against the dragons ourselves. We asked other adventurers in Revenant's Toll and members of Free Companies to help us. This is the opposite of doing it on our own.

Or have you skipped the quest text with Tataru?

If you actually paid attention to the story beyond just reading Tataru's text, you'd notice that those reinforcements were defeated before the trial even began. You saved the hides of the remaining reinforcement soldiers/sellswords before even unlocking the trial. You fight the horde near Whitebrim once and at the cliff West of Svara's Fate spawn another time. You, on your own, succeed where a group of adventurers/sellswords failed. And afterwards you go to the trial, without any reinforcements but the Ishgardian soldiers and the usual 7 other Adventurers by your side. You have Ishgard's cannonfodder soldiers present and dying helplessly against a boss that's about 3-5 times the size of usual bosses, and you get cannons to use against this 3-5 times bigger-than-usual boss. That's it. Nothing in that trial suggests that we are weakened at all. Tanks can still tank a dozen of dragons - and DPS can still kill them just fine. We'd just run out of time without cannons, because all the boss has to do is walk in a straight line. He doesn't have to try and kill us.

As far as fighting as a team, well if a player character opted to buy time and "hold them off", would he not get laughed at ?

Even in the last scene with them coming out of the city there weren't anything close to a hundred. There couldn't have been more than 10 people that burst in that room, one of which is a non-combatant.

Be sure to tell that to all the other strongholds and dungeons we waltz in and out of on our own.
