Why not?

I know some reasons for wanting an unlock quest. They're reasons some people would care about and many others wouldn't, so I can understand a divide between wanting it and not caring. (And there's the tendency of people who don't care about something to object purely for thinking it's unnecessary.) But what possible reason could there be for actually wanting there to NOT be such a quest?

We're going to have new quests regardless, so why not have the first one unlock the level cap?

The only reasons I can think of are the same reasons not to gate the expansion content behind the MSQl; it's 40+ hours or so if you skip reading and watching cutscenes, double that if you want to follow the story. But since they are already gating the expansion behind the MSQ, and that will be the only place where being 51+ matters, I could see them adding in a level cap increase quest.

All expansion area's are gated behind MSQ, But I don't see anything that would suggest that the level cap would also be behind that same gate. I also don't believe the very first thing we are going to do in Heavensward is stroll into Ishgard. There will be some story before that happens.

and again, what is your source that EVERY expansion zone will be gated behind MSQ. Last i checked there was mention of adding zones such as West Shroud, which would have very little reason to be gated behind going into Ishgard, which is the only confirmed area to be locked by the MSQ.
