I think a lot of people are looking at this too much from the third-person, video game player's perspective. Of course, as the player we are able to know things much better than our characters because we see things from every angle. Heck, we even see the bad guys acting all suspicious, while our characters looks away.
(Cont...)
Secondly, I think it's important to separate the 'game aspect' from the 'world aspect'. For example, if our character gets stabbed and bleeds to death, from a game aspect we can simply be healed by magic or revived. But from a world aspect, our character would, well, die. Otherwise, nobody in this world will ever actually die. If that were the case, then I think that magic and potions would have a much larger role and ramification to the world and story. Which it does not. Another example would be use of aetherytes. From a game aspect, we can just use them whenever because it's more convenient for the player. But from a realistic world aspect, using aetherytes uses a lot of magic and preparation. Otherwise, why wouldn't people simply use it everytime they're in a bad situation or needs to escape?
(Cont...)
So as far as the predicament our characters were put in, yes we beat primals, fought hordes of dragons, etc. but we did that prepared and with lots of help. Here we were caught off guard, alone and outnumbered. Could we have over powered those guards? Possibly. We were supposed to be physically and magically strong afterall. But how many more guards will come? Realistically speaking, if one of those guards had a bow and shot our character in the head, that's it. Looking at it this way, it made sense that our character was caught, tied up, and to put it more positively, waited for the right moment to strike.
(Had to post 3 times because of 1000char limit O.o)
First the least possible Choice... just like it happened... split up and get the beat of my life ... worst plan ever...
My favs:
1st - I am the f*"§%! Warrior of Light... would have blown up this Tedji and his pack with a flare the second they framed me... (even an Ice 1 would kick such Guards in real game)
2nd possibility - go enrage, just like Raubahn, quite the same as first, but with more baddies dead
and if you go the pacifist "i proof my self innocent way"
3rd: Invite all to party,
click teleport to $justsomewhereelse
everbody save.

Never a mind was changed on an internet board, no matter how good your arguments are...

Ok, anyone that thinks the Brass Blades, Crystal Cowards, or the Monitarists pose any threat to our characters haven't been paying attention. Nothing short of a primal can even slow us down, toss in the Scions, Raubahn, and any Flames or Sultan sworn that happen to be within earshot and tell me exactly what force within the city stands a snowballs chance in hell of doing anything against that force? The Flames and Sultan sworn may have corrupt elements but the bulk of both groups are loyal to the Sultana and Raubahn, Lolorito throwing around accusations against him and the warrior that saved the land will get HIS throat slit, not ours.
So as to what Remedia would have done, as soon as someone came to try and bind her they would promptly be pummeled/burned/smited/diseased or whatever other thing I felt like doing considering the mess of abilities and skills she has accumulated that don't require a weapon. After that it depends if the little greedy bastards felt like getting into a real fight once it is shown that political maneuvering counts for very little when your in a room full of grade A badasses that are tired of your ****. If it continues as normal, jump right in with Raubahn and hopefully keep his arm intact, if they try to flee organize the other two military orders to disband the syndicate, blades, and crystal cowards.
If by some miracle they force Remedia to flee as in the current story, screw hiding. Call in all debts, Beastman tribes, the Domans, sympathetic members of the other two GC, and every Tom, Dick, and Harry who's ass I have saved and is any good in a fight gets an invite to one hell of a throw down and of course try to rouse the Flames and Paladins along with the combat guilds. I should mention at this point Remedia is not the calm calculating type when pissed, damn the consequences the traitorous bastards would not enjoy the fruits of their labors.
In short, Remedia would crush the traitors or go down like a berserker that just had one of her friends murdered in front of her. I like to think if everyone reacted this way to bastards the world would be a much more civil place. ^^;

The reason why I really believe the Sultana may be back is because of what she said, she wanted change, big change. Is that idea just going to go to waste? No one else new about it but the Warrior of Light and it's not like anyone in Ul'dah is really gonna believe you right now. I don't think a positive change is going to come from her being dead.
Nanamo announced her intentions to Merwyb and Kann-e-Senna a while back, and her handmaiden, having privileged access to the room while such conversations took place could have easily eavesdropped on such utterings and reported it all back to Lolorito. If the plan was allowed to take action, all the monetarists including Lolorito would lose their majority power, which they are currently able to abuse. Therefore Lolorito opportunistically planned her assassination by promoting the banquet and then probably had Teledji Adaledji "check up" on the sultana at the convenient time right after Nanamo drank from her goblet.
All the false accusations being spewed out by Teledji were probably fed to him by Lolorito over a span of time to brainwash him into distrusting the Scions. Its a classic case of sick twisted Mofo uses everyone around him as pawns so that once the sordid deal is done they look squeeky clean, paving the way for them to gain majority or full control of the political situation
