Obvious spoilers for those not having done certain class quests:
Lord Lolorito is the most powerful and influential of the Syndicate members, the Alacran in the story line (and Gladiator storyline) worked for him. The Alacran and the Brass Blades are both owned by Lord Lolorito. The Brass Blades are in charge of customs, viewing merchant wears entering Ul'dah. Lolorito has all the power. He was also given something by the Sultansworn (not said if the Alacran that obtained it was tracked down and stopped) in exchange for the stolen crown. He will definitely be the most major player in future Ul'dah storylines. Also Lord Lolorito is tied to the frozen-death like state of Niellefresne (ugh I'm gonna bring this up over and over until finally given closure) with the dagger having been his and Niellefresne stealing it, trying to use the power of the dagger and some Thaumaturge ability to communicate with Warburton to find out the "true threat to Eorzea" (not being the Garleans). He has enough gil to buy the Thaumaturge guild, most of the guild itself has capable of assassinations. If a rich person is killed, in an unnatural way, and he has bought a "revenge-will" with the Thaumaturge -- it becomes their duty to carry out the will regardless of who it is. The Thaumaturge guild and the Alchemist guild brings together the perfect combination of deadly results for the Sultana. Assassins with access to poison.

Also about the Platinum Mirage, the Sultana's brother (it's in the AM and I'm too tired to look it up or know it off the top of my head) owns the Pugilist Guild / Casino. He sits on the Syndicate but whether he's on his sister's side or the Syndicates is unknown. After all if she were to have a mishap, chances are he'd be the next in line for power.

    Lolorito isn't all-powerful,

In the Culinarian quest line, of all things, he tries to get revenge upon you by making you look like a bad cook in front of the Sultana (no, seriously). When she figures this out he backs-off rather than risk being rebuked by her in public.

I think he's got a lot of behind-the-scenes power but popular support is still with the Sultana and I think he's afraid of that.

That is pretty much how it goes.
And when we remember that Ul'Dah is a fragile place, even before the calamity the city almost ripped itself apart over one high-stakes arena match, he doesn't wants a full-fledged rebellion on his face

I didn't actually know that about the Mirage, thanks! Though careful again about Syndicate vs Monetarist. Fuzzy and related, but still different. I would say though that the Sultana's brother is more likely to be Royalist: for him to gain power from succession, he'd want to preserve that sovereign power for himself, not abolish the position entirely.

Or he could be a Monetarist, since does not matter if you got all the power, with or without a "loyal" title.

not goin to happen, trust me like in the real world, not all powerful super rich peeps DO NOT want public attention because u can only do a killing if theres discretion and secrecy, and besides not any of those syndicate members is an arms dealer.

Lord Lolorito does indeed control most of Ul'dah (money wise), his own paid employees inspect Merchants wears coming into the city. In 1.0 he also wanted peace with the Garleans as he sold and bought goods from/to them. He also had the Alacran, which you'll have to do the Gladiator sidequest to see how that goes.
Whether Leavold's death ends the Alacran or not, it remains to be seen.

Ul'dah is all about money (even the Thaumaturge guild is about money i.e. how much it costs to have oneself "prepared" for burial), the Sultana loses support every day. Raubahn is the only thing keeping her from losing the crown and possibly her head. Also why did an Ascian orchestrate the theft of her crown in the first place? If the Ascian controlled the Alacran at that time, what would the Sultana losing her crown really result in...her looking bad and the Syndicate garnishing more support -- If the item that the Ascian wanted was whatever the Sultansworn handed over, he would have taken it from the Alacran/Sultansworn not stood by idly as they were captured by Papashan and Co. The item I mention being said to the ability to bring the dead back to life and control them. Also Lord Lolorito would be giving the orders, not an Ascian..unless Lord Lolorito had been taken over by an Ascian himself. Lord Lolorito has been given a sort of humorous air about him like with the CUL quest, the Lolorito I know from 1.0 is so different, after all it's a high probability that he was the one who ordered the assassination of Niellefresne.

I think if there were a civil war, we would not be able to fight for the syndicate, the storyline sets us up as very anti Lolorito, very anti syndicate. Side quests, and some job quests do the same.

Does that have something to do with the zombie thing in the Ul'dah/Sil'dih war? Also...it seems Lolorito is not so comical now after all.

Can anyone tell me more about what Lolorito's role was in the original 1.0 story? And while we're bridging things....what about Teledji Adeledji in 1.0?

Back in 1.0, when you open Niellefresne's coffin, everyone is shocked, and then the meteors happened. I was always wondering what did they see in the coffin?
