    Stone Vigil

Just earlier, I entered Stone Vigil on storyline quest, but something wasn't right. Was I supposed to have 'Stoneskin' on instead of 'Protect' in there?

Anyway, I've been trying to get aggro on myself, but it wasn't working, as I was using Provoke, or am I supposed to use Flash? I had a feeling someone wasn't liking my tanking, despite doing what I could, so I left.

I might require more info about it. The healer didn't use protect on you? Didn't you receive enough heal? I see you as Marauder here, so I'll take a guess and say that you were using War in SV. You only use Provoke when you lose aggro form one monster. It gives you the same amount of aggro generated by the person who stole it +1, so you gotta build emnity on that guy asap or he'll get away from you again. As you play War, it's better if you use Overpower. Flash is useful if you jump in blind in group of monsters, since it's a circular AoE around you. But since your MP is not really high, Overpower is your signature move to keep emnity in big groups of monsters. What did they tell you, exactly?

Well, I was told, and I quote...WAIT...and was told they wouldn't continue if I didn't keep aggro. But anyway, Protect wasn't used at all, only Stoneskin. Tried the FC, but no one was available, so I was in with 3 random players as always.

If it was a Scholar, there's a decent chance they didn't have Protect level synced. I have Stoneskin before Protect on mine, because my fairy handle a vaaaaast majourity of the healing in low level dungeons anyways. It isn't even particularly useful on the first and third bosses of SV, in particular since only conjurers get the MDEF+ trait.

Protect isn't going to help you keep hate. Where you using your buff combos properly?

    Did you have Defiance up?
If you don't you will lose hate really quickly.

I usually pull w/ Tomahawk > Overpower > Overpower > start my first rotation. Flash in between as needed. I also cycle through mobs as needed.
For Overpower you must make sure that the mobs are in front of you. For Flash make sure the mobs are around you because it is centered around you so you can't target a mob 30yalms away and use flash to get hate.

Sometimes you will get healers who don't like to use Protect or Stoneskin because they feel it is useless. Personally, I think they don't don't use those skills because they are lazy but that's neither here nor there. Just do your best to ignore those types of situations even though they can be annoying.

It was my first time in that dungeon anyway. I've just been having a look round and wondered if I could be equipped with Overpower and Tomahawk as well.

Make sure Defiance is turned ON
Make sure you have buffs from your healers (Protect)
Don't overpull - this is one of the first dungouns where it's easy to overexert yourself/your healers.
On the approach, use Tomahawk. As mobs get to you, use flash/overpower for AE threat. After 2-4 uses of it (Every tank is differnt) switch to an ST cycle. Don't use taunt to pull.
If you have a WHM, repose can sleep a single mob. (Avoid heavier AoE here to let them sleep it)
If you have a BLM, Sleep can sleep a group of mobs. (Avoid heavier AoE here to let them sleep it)
Bloodbath is always your friend. Pair it with berserk for a potent self-heal.
Don't stand in the floor stuff. They hurt you.

Edit-In: Least I forget, you should look at upgrading some of your gear that's still i30 to i40 (More level appropriate, especially your left side stuff. Weapon is the biggest one - even if it's 1 weapon damage, upgrade it.)

First off, you need to upgrade your gear to as high as you can. Lv30 pieces in SV is bad news, especially for a new tank.

It sounds more like you really don't know your class well. Asking if you should have two excellent hate-gaining abilities *equipped* has me VERY concerned. SV is a HARD dungeon for new people. You have to carefully pull several groups of mobs (some of whom hit really hard) and the bosses all have mechanics that you can't ignore.

I suggest reading up on how to WAR. I don't know just how much you do and don't know, so looking up some of that info yourself is probably best.
