An acquaintance of mine advised using the /busy status will circumvent the RMT tell spam. I tell you, the silence has been beautiful. I would highly recommend it. Just make sure you tell folks that if they need to speak privately with you, to say so via FC/LS, say or moogle mail so you can remove the status. The /busy status will also pass you up on responding to the Ready Check. People know you are ready if you have been running around and if you are not ready, just shout it out (thinking of Crystal Tower primarily).

That is interesting. Thank you for the suggestion. It is another work around but it would help tremendously when questing. It would be nice if Square Enix had a report as RMT when you click on someones name similar to the black list option. Making RMT easier to report would go a long way in letting us players know that Square Enix hears us.

'tis true. I find that SE intentionally designs content to counteract RMT but it has the adverse effect of being unfun to us players. I also feel that they don't do anything about this crap and rely heavily on poor game design instead.

I found that I never receive tells from anyone other than RMT. If I communicate with any of my LS/FCmates, it's over those respective channels. So I just turned off the /tell chime and filted /tells out of my part and FC/LS tabs.

Am I happy about it? No, but the utter peace... it just feels like the lesser of two evils...

I've said this before, and I will say it again, but I would really like it if they introduced a similar method that Blizzard employs when it comes to reporting. Right click > Report Spam > Screen shot is taken at that moment, sent off to the team of RMT Fighters & flags account for suspicious activity > Temporarily mutes the reported character for as long as you are logged onto the character that you made the report.

However, I understand that the coding and implementation of such a feature isn't as easy as, say, flipping a light switch. That extra 1 or 0 could end up making all the Lalafells look like fluffy Chia pets.

really dont know why so many topics are appearing about gold spammers dont think its as bad as ppl are making out lol in my world ODIN i mayb get 1 RMT tell once every 8-9 days n rarely n i mean RARELY even see a gold seller message on chat in any of the major cities

Lots of way SE could crack down even harder.

1. Crack down through preventing new characters from trading gold/items until a certain level. Completely unnecessary for level 1-10 to be able to transact with anything.

2. Hire ninjas for assassinations.

3. Anyone who is blacklisted by 30 people ceases to be able to use tell chat.

4. I have no idea if this is true but I keep hearing the claim that stolen CCs are being used to purchase accounts for the RMT bots. IF this is true work with law enforcement to go after these guys - stolen CCs can put people in prison. Where they will hopefully be gang raped.

5. See step #2.

6. Like otherwise mentioned - expand blacklist to infinite and auto remove them from blacklist if the account is banned. Also if you blacklist one character tie it back to the account so you've blacklisted the account.

If you've taken the time to read any of the threads that had people, like yourself, claim that they aren't getting many RMT tells on their server (and therefor, must not be a problem right?). You would have also read that servers that have heavy character creation restrictions wont have the spam problem other servers have, because the bots can't create new characters to spam.

On servers that bots are free to create character after character, we get shit on by tells constantly as the bots cycle through the various ways to roll a face across the keyboard to create a name.

I just got friend requested by a bot whose last name was 'Sellgil' and had a ad for gil selling in his search info. They're not even trying to hide it anymore.

lol RMT was bad in odin for ages couldnt even see chat in city without blacklisting 10 players everytime u entered now its nice n clean which means SE are working on the problem... also another problem is most people dont bother to report them just block so naturally they wont disappear lolz
