I told him to stop doing it and he did it again and I'm just so angry at him.
Your friend doesn't have any problem with contributing to RMT companies and basically ruining the game for a lot of people. Botted gil absolutely wrecks the economy. Barrages of tell advertisements ruin the immersion. With that said, why would you have any problem with reporting him for his actions? He's ruining the game for you too.

Might be because stabbing your friend in the back over a video game isn't the smartest thing in the world.

But also defending a friend or turning a blind eye to illicit activity by said friend isn't the right thing to do. Kinda makes you just as guilty in a sense. Backstabbing comment reminds me of my nephew who is and idiot and sitting in jail for probation violation. He mouths off about snitches suck and he wouldn't do it. Guess what his buddies would probably stab him in the back. Bad sense of logic I think. I have never and will never back up a friend who is wrong and they know that damn well. They screw up they're going to pay regardless.

Think you might be taking this video game, placed in a virtual world and has 0 effect on your actual reality, a bit too seriously to compare it to committing real, actual, not-virtual crimes and going to jail. But. Uh. Ok, guy. I don't agree with buying gil but I'm not going to go turning friends in over it, if they get caught then they deserve what they get but I have no reason to report them because WHO NEEDS FRIENDS, JUSTICE PREVAILS. That's all very moral-high-ground-upstanding-citizen of you but I'd personally not take the trade off and let a few things I disagree with slide. If they start robbing banks for real world money, then I'll call the cops and tell them everything I know. I think there is a difference, however, between buying virtual money in a make believe economy and stealing real world money, though.

His friend is doing something that's against the rules he agreed to when he signed up to the game, and is basically one of the reasons that RMT is still here to cause all the myriad issues that they cause. He's part of the problem. None of my friends are dumb enough to buy gil (or if they are, they are at least smart enough not to tell me about it) but if they did, I'd ask them to stop and explain why. If that failed, I'd simply turn them in. If they get a temporary or permanent ban, that's not my fault for reporting them. It's their own fault for breaking the terms of the agreement they have with SE. By not turning them in, you give tacit approval of their actions.

It has nothing to do with not being their friend. A real friend can tell you when you're being an idiot.

They take the game seriously enough that they're participating in RMT to get ahead in it. Why should I not take it seriously enough that I'm willing to turn them in for something that wrecks the game for other people?

Dont take it personal but at the same time because it is the internet or just a game is a poor excuse. There is something to be said about friends in rl who are willing to cheat and break rules, how far would they really go? Hopefully the day where they cheat you or w/e never happens. It is against the ToS it is cheating regardless. No worries I'm not taking your comments personally, I just agree to disagree sir.

If you read the case in question again, said "friend" was asked to stop doing what they were doing. They did it again. I think the friend is the backstabber here, not the victim. They received a second chance without being reported and squandered it.

Regarding the recent spam of leveling botters, SE only takes action against these people you report about once a month, when they announce "Actions Taken Against In-Game RMT & Other Illicit Activities". There was one of these on the 19th of this month. Immediately after all of the RMT accounts are banned in mass, those RMT companies create new accounts and begin mass leveling new bots. That's why you see waves of bot thaumaturges teleporting underground. Once they get up to max level and can continue their normal gil exploiting ways, you won't see as much of them until the NEXT time SE bothers to take action.
