Actually me and my female friends are part of that "plenty" he talks of. It's okay if your gender comes up in a conversation that is on topic, but when people post stuff like "come to my gaming channel, hot chick gamer!", yeah, that's attention. When they shout "Will anyone carry this poor dragoon girl with them to clear Odin ; ;? Will give TIGHT hugs in bikini", that's attention and trying to take advantage of your gender. And sadly there's many of them out there.

No doubt. I fully understand people like that exist. But to say the only reason gender, specifically from women, comes up is for attention is incorrect. Literally anyone can do things for attention. Yet the focus is always on those pesky women waving their gender for stuff. Which, to be perfectly honest, in all my years playing MMO it's happened so rarely I don't even see how this is an issue. There are plenty of times when it's actually men doing that also. I've encountered more cases of men saying those things on a female toon than a women doing it. I actually encountered a couple who did this. Her husband played a girl toon, and they delighted in seeing what other people would give him.

So yeah, I'm always weary of this mysterious women who gets things from men. It's often used as a way to even further seperate gamers. Not only do we have to prove to men we're actually ladies who play (otherwise we're just men because ladies totes don't game), but we also have to prove we're not THOSE women. Only then can the male gamers bless us as real gamers. /sarcasm

They artificially inflate that 40% by including "mobile games". Middle aged female gamers have skyrocketed since Farmville and Candy Crush were released.

And, I'm not talking about normal conversations or correcting people. I thought I already said that. There's a difference between being annoyed that some guy is calling you dude and telling everyone in a PUG that you are a girl for absolutely no reason whatsoever.
The first link to stats says 40%. I don't know exactly where they got those stats though, so I do tend to be curious about it. The last one also says 40%, but does seem to be a blog post. Though one done by games analyst. Though, arguably, a mobile MMO is still an MMO. Quite frankly, my opinion is that if you play games...you can be considered a gamer (this include tabletop). Obviously there's a difference between the housewives who play Candy Crush while waiting for their kids, but she also isn't going to be the one calling herself a gamer.

I honestly didn't see you differentiate between anything. You're example was merely girls saying "I'm a girl" which is fairly broad. Regardless, I have addressed above to another person my opinions on that situation as well.

Thank you. I explained it poorly. This is much better. Since everyone is jumping on me already for crap I didn't say... I didn't want to give them more material.

No, I don't think the majority of female gamers are looking for white knights. Yes, I think those girls are looked down upon by most other girls.
