I'm fairly sure there are many people who play MMOs to get away from reality and how they are perceived in reality. MMOs are fantasy worlds and games like FFXIV made the world well enough for people to feel fully immersed in them. Once immersion kicks in you want to be your character, kick back and forget the realities of life during your time in this world. Why would someone who wants to play FFXIV for the immersion want people to think of them as their real selves instead of their characters?

If people who immerse themselves in MMOs and want to 'be' their characters bothers you so much, find gamers like yourself who don't really care much about game immersion eh? If you want to get to know someone beyond their character then you'll just have to befriend them and earn their trust. Otherwise you are Eolas Solais to me and I am E'lusana Celah.

And just to end the discussion, for those of you who say it really doesn't matter. I'm sorry, it's more like you are saying, "it shouldn't matter". Because the fact is, there are more people who care at what you fit into, because it's easier, simpler. No matter how much you wish for your race, gender, etc to not matter, it does. You are categorized by what you have, do, and are. It hasn't changed and by the looks of things, not anytime soon. I applaud your valiant attempts at keeping things equal, and it's noble, but unfortunately it's not real. If it were, well, the world would be a different place, wouldn't it? A little off topic, but that's what it all boils down to. Keep it real.

I really don't think speech patterns and ADHD-related activities such as jumping around a lot can give you concrete evidence of a person's gender. I mean I know a girl who literally talks about beer all day and refers to everyone as duuuuude and going to bars and sports related conversations as well as an overuse of sexual humor and if I didn't know for 100% fact that she was a girl she'd be a guy to me lol.

Trying to oversimplify a gender conclusion will only lead to disappointment.
