I am extremely tired of things like ^Any female MMO gamer that announces that they are indeed a female might as well scream "please cyber me." That is how 99% of the MMO population interprets that sort of behavior. If you don't like that then I'm sorry but it's the truth. Enjoy the attention or keep your business to yourself.
Just because a player is female IRL they are looking for attention? Are you really serious right now? Also I love the random made up statistics right there.
Ever think that maybe, just maybe, we girls are just being ourselves? Or maybe we just want to be addressed properly since we are human beings? If someone calls me he or him in game I usually correct them nicely, no, it is not for attention, it is because I am not a he or a him. Is it a big deal? Not really, but I prefer to be addressed with what I am and it clears up confusion sometimes cause I might not know who they are talking to if they call me he or him.
As a community of gamers we need to stop this stuff of "Oh! it's a girl, she just wants attention", "Oh! its a girl, she just wants free stuff from guys", "Oh! its a girl, she obviously wants to cyber" <-----WTF
I can't say there are no women players who do certain things just for attention, but we need to stop the generalization that ALL women players are like that.
Maybe we are just proud to be women in the gaming world, cause we love the games as much as men do. We love to play and have fun and learn to be skilled players that can do amazing things on their classes/jobs.

This. OMFG This *so* much.
I really like the way my character looks, I have spend hours deciding on her appearance and voice. But good grief, she's just a game character, very pretty and yes, she's pleasing to the eye. In the same way that anything pretty is pleasing to the eye. Personally, I'm proud of her and continue to spend a decent amount of time adjusting her appearance and wardrobe as the mood takes me.
Why is it that people always assume the most ridiculous motives for such things?
In my experience, those accusing others of such things are the ones with the issue.
and to conserve replies...I'll add this here.
Hmm....well, I'm on Behemoth, and our FC house is in the mist, its the Medium as far south east (I think) as you can go, it overlooks the beach atop a cliff all of it's own... But "Hey!" in any case, perhaps one day the servers will be upgraded enough to bring everyone together...
Make that outfit and hair pink and you come close to my wife's avatar, so, yeah, your theory doesn't work so well...

In this instance, as this thread illustrates, I think it's because so many men feel betrayed when their coveted in-game waifus turn out to not match their character's gender. This leads to them assuming that the other player is a pervert. It seems to be a self defense mechanism for feeling like they've been made to look like a fool, or to protect themselves from that happening (hence the cliche that 90% of female avatars are male).
Guys, females and female characters do not exist to service men, and men's eyes. Your assumptions about a player's RL gender are YOUR problem, not that player's. People play characters of opposite gender for any number of reasons, but I can guarantee you that it's never for YOU.

Small house, next door to us, nothing but catgirls.
Maybe I'm remembering wrong, I was queueing as low-level DPS the other day so I went wandering around everyones houses in our ward.
In FFXIV we are all the same gender, the gender of Gamer ^_^it's easy really, they'll be the ones avoiding you for making such a stupid thread on the forums.
Bad! BAD!
Stop!
Gender in an MMO means nothing unless you're interested in that person in the real world too, and can actually find some way to be a part of their real life. Otherwise you're just in a videogame.
