There are a LOT more female gamers than this stereotypical bs notion presents. I've been gaming since the pong console was a thing. There have always been plenty of girl gamers. ><

This stereotype just needs to be tossed out. Just sayin...
I'm sorry but I very very rarely run into females. I don't consider mobile games real gamers which ironically I noticed a lot in that department. I hate the fact more companies have gone this route because it brings in "more" income. I know that's being biased but that how I feel on the matter.

    Im totally a girl.

No serious. I play elezen male, but I'm a girl. None of my fc and static treats me as a girl though. So, it's not about their real gender, more like what you want to see their gender is. >_>

Proof of how my raid members treats me: http://www.twitch.tv/fnremy/c/6231388

I'm parsing your first and second sentences like this:

"I don't see women so women don't play this game"
"Woman play mobile games, which makes them not real gamers"

I'm really hoping that that wasn't the sentiment you were trying to convey.

You don't run into women that identify themselves as women is what I suspect is happening. Roughly half of the people in my normal in game friend circle are women and the guy/girl ratio I've seen in FF is way more balanced than what you see in say, WoW.

I don't care what gender other players are, because it's irrelevant to me. Most girl gamers I know don't like to draw extra attention to themselves because they just want to be able to play the game and not be asked what they look like or what they're wearing which kind of breaks immersion I'd imagine. For that reason, if you see a character running around looking like Hooker Barbie- it's a male player. 99.9% of the time. All the female players I know look like regular girls or Lalafells.

Here's the best way to know who a female player is- its when one decides to tell you, of their own accord. If they never bring it up, then it they don't find it relevant, and common courtesy would be to let them play the game the way they want without bringing real life details into it.

    OMG yes.
most of us in the FC know what gender we all are due to voice chat, but no one has ever said or been asked directly what gender they were.
honestly when just chatting to people in FC chat (text only), little bits of personal information often filter though. what kind of food you like, if you have any pets, stuff like that.
it's better to see if you can just make a friend, often being labelled a gender (doesn;t matter which) can put various pressures/agendas on one and other whether warranted or not. and gawd who wants that when a video game is for escapism.

I actually do agree with that. I wouldn't reveal more about myself, until I know and trust the person I'm speaking to. Your character gives you escapism. People might play the game to forget about rl.

I'm one of the weird people. I'm a guy, I play a lala, I have a female alt that not only do I take care of Making sure she isn't dressed "skanky", but I don't pretend to be her or a girl. she is her own person. And when I play on her I refer to her as such. As a 3rd person perspective, I'm just watching over and aiding as she saves the land. And no its not RP it's just how I affiliate with her

We have a large % of females in our FC, and I'm not taking guys who play girls. Also you'd be surprised how many girls play games - and Im not talking mobile/Facebook games. I'm talking PC and console games. It's a lot larger than you think.

But the average female gamer has played for 13 years, and many are increasingly dedicated. The number of girls and women playing those consoles more than five days a week has grown tenfold since 2011, to 13 million this year, Newzoo said.
Gaming in 2011: About 30 Million males and 10 million females played games on Sony and Microsoft's big consoles. About About 1.2 million girls and women said they played five days a week or more.

...and gaming in 2014: the number of female gamers grew more than 70 percent (to 30.3 million), while males grew 45 percent (to 45.3 million). More than 13 million girls and women said they play five days or more a week -- 11 times as many as in 2011.
and that is discussing console games, not mobile games.

Edit: i would also like to point out this:

Yet America's 190 million gamers, 48 percent of whom are women, still play in a harsh frontier. About 70 percent of female gamers said they played as male characters online in hopes of sidestepping sexual harassment, according to a study cited by "Hate Crimes in Cyberspace" author and law professor Danielle Keats Citron.
So just because you don't see us, doesn't mean we aren't playing.

I'm a female IRL who plays a male Mi'qote. Not just to curb the stupid comments but also because I don't want to spend all my game hours looking at some chick's rear end.
