I think people making characters to please themselves less worrysome than those who build characters specifically to please other people, personally.
You don't need to make a female character to enjoy what you're looking at all day. Just look at another character. You look at yourself all day in the mirror, are you gonna get breast implants and put some lipstick on?

If its a female character, then I adress them as if they are female. Majority of the time they tend to tell me that they are male in real life, untill then the character gender = is the player gender.

Sorry but this answer, I am a fangirl, and I fangirl over bishies, so of course I will make a bishie character and not a female character. I tried female character, but I changed back to a male character, because I like looking at my sexy elezen (before that my sexy miqo); and I think it's the same for males - of course they will prefer looking at their female characters: that doesn't mean they want to get breast implants and put some lipstick on, it means they want eyecandy... fandom man, it's fandom and ff14 is fanservice when it comes to this.

You say this and yet somehow over-sexualised female avatars are the norm in fantasy games. A genre where, if statistics and popular culture are to be believed, men make up the majority. Would that be for you to appeal to other players or to have your own to enjoy? Obviously this is a generalization but one look around any major city will tell you that the Miqo'te race is by far one of the more popular choices and the vast majority are female characters. Miqo'te females also wear the least amount of clothing in even her heaviest armor.

I'm still unconvinced that it's necessary to know whether a player is male or female. Whatever his or her real life might be, you're interacting with a character. Even if a man is using a male avatar, it's still a character. We project the person we want to be more than the person we are, for better or for worse, and this is a game about having fun. If by having fun it means not being yourself for a few hours, I think we can all see the benefits to that.

As hilarious as those are to play around with, I wouldn't rely on them. I tried making my voice sound masculine but it sounded more like I was talking with my head in a bucket of water. I found using the female voice funny though, it makes your voice sound like one of the chipmunks.

So watch out, you may want to reconsider fantasia'ing yourself to a male as to not confuse others and get tired of people thinking you are a girl. Just play your sex already, it's 2015. Be normal.
Some females play male because of what you type here. Most real girls dislike flirting and other of such behavior. How you say you act around females, make most females run away and change to male characters.

But no guy could match my awesome male? Because my male exactly acts as I want it. He looks exactly as I want it. No other guy char can match that, not even my husband could.

I do play male and female. But male is really more fun to play. At least to me.
