^thats what im afraid of too...that second ability will be hard to get. you could breed again but there is also the risk to run out of breeding capacity before getting a good chocobo again... This also means that we shouldn't feed our final chocobo with grade 2/3 food before we dont get a good second ability, which might not happen until very high ranks, like in your case.

just out of curiosity, is your chocobo pedigree 10? i heared from different people in other forums that they got a P10, but didnt see any picture yet...

After finally getting a worthwhile chocobo with 17/20 stars and spending well over 60k mgp on covers, the damn thing came out with the Fair weather preference, the weather needs to be changed, or allow us to buy a training manual that allows us to have our choc favor a certain type of weather.. The fact that one type is stronger is a very bad oversight, both should have pros/cons, the fact that Foul>Fair is dumb with only RNG factoring it.. I'd also be all for abolishing the weather preference and making it just a visual effect.

From my experience, this is false. I must've bred over 10 P9 chocobos with another P9 and the resulting fledging is always P9.

ok thanks for confirming. this changes my future breeding plans alot. if 9 is the cap then imo its better to start breeding with 2 retired chocobos early, to get all 4 stars along the way to P9. Of course you need to use coverings until you get some 4 stars first. For each stat you need at least 1 retired chocobo with 4 stars in it. Then use 2 retired chocobos for breeding until you get all/most of the parent's 4 stars and repeat. you will need to rank up 2 chocobos for each pedigree, but imo thats much better than doing this many times at P9.

Be curious to see how well it works. I would think that stockpiling mgp while leveling and then blowing it on covers and breedings at the end would be faster, but I could be wrong.

Hmm, I think if you really want a perfect chocobo then there is too much RNG when breeding with covers. If you breed with two retired chocobos you have 10 attempts and no MGP costs. Also it will be much easier to inherit a certain ability or color.
of course thats only possible after you got all the 4 stars and the desired color from covers ^^

@Miste - If you want a "perfect" full potential P9, then you'll likely have to rank up both genders from what I've read.

That's easier said than done. I win most of my races, compete in the highest group available to my rank, and it takes 3-4 won races to rank up. My guess is that most people don't actually race and just let the chocobo go while they do other things because last place when you aren't playing but are instead watching Netflix is still progress.

What I'd like to see them do is give much more xp for the top three spots. 1st place: a rank up for anything in that class, possibly two rank-ups if it is a low level bird in that class, 2nd or 3rd: rank up for low-level bird in that class or about half a level for a high-ranking bird in that class. 4th&5th: Okay progress - about what 1st place and 2nd place are now, 6th-8th: nothing (prevent dead-heading).

Exactly. If you are winning or placing (top 3) in all the races for each rank, you should earn enough MGP to buy Grade 3 feed. That should be the reward for placing well; however, I don't think they should give us that much MGP or it would break the Saucer; instead they should lower the cost of the feed by 60-80%. I know this would lead to people buying the minimum MGP more often, but so what. Is there really any harm in people doing that?

What are you doing to rank up so fast? It is taking me 2-3 winning races to get a single rank up with my chocobo in the R80 class. The idea of having two P9s when I only have the one P1 startles me.
