Need Clarification for the Steam Players...

I'm under the impression that Steam players must purchase their version of 3.0 through Steam.

This is correct. Users who purchased FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn on Steam will need to purchase FINAL FANTASY XIV: Heavensward on Steam as well.

What this means that a physical CE copy, digital copy or a physical copy would not work, since it is not the steam version.

While I'm waiting for more information from steam regarding their pre-orders, do we still have the option to get the collector's edition bonuses, or even the early-access codes if it is purchased through steam? I'm coming up with nothing from both the steam community or here.

Yes, we are currently working with Valve to launch pre-orders for the Steam version of Heavensward (standard and digital Collector's Edition) that would include the pre-order bonuses.

Does this work the other way around? I bought my PC-version on launch, before there was a Steam-version, and later bought it on Steam to have in my Steam-library. My Steam-key couldn't be used as I already had a (retail) Windows-license registered but with Heavensward I would like to buy it on Steam, is this possible?

This is an issue of install data management, not account registration -- you will need a Steam copy of Heavensward to work with a Steam install of ARR.

Your non-Steam copy of Heavensward will work with your non-Steam copy of ARR install data.

So... No warning about this, at any point before the day regular pre-orders opened, and your only response is a "nope". Not even a "sorry, nope," as, honestly, I think you owe your (apparently second-class) Steam-based subscribers an apology. Just... Wow. Great customer service. Not even a mention of an attempt to work with Steam to have a separate "Steam CE box" option that pays them their cut. Just a "well, seems you made a poor choice that we in no way warned you about, sucks to be you," and a failure to negotiate even the digital releases before the day it became available.

Except, SE *did* make note of this fact. In the Live Letter, on the forums in the post about the live letter that follows the live letters end, and hell, even on Steam itself (Although the last one was today, but I still saw it before the pre-orders went live). So, y'know, you not knowing is entirely on yourself for being ignorant.

This logic is extremely flawed. Not everyone who is interested in purchasing the product is going to watch the live letter or read about it. I know they personally do not interest me. Not everyone bothers with the steam forums/announcements either.

Any other product would have warnings on their labels. What would you think if you bought some food at the store that was made with poison, but it didn't say it on the label, but did say it on their website in some out of the way location on it? Would you blame yourself?

There is also no reason to suspect SE store bought Heavensward copies or official copies bought elsewhere would NOT work with Steam copies of the game. There's no conceivable reason anyone has offered as to why making them work with each other is "impossible", and doing so would be expected typically. We already have an SE account, what's the purpose of it if things we buy that SE has officially made won't work with it.

I also did not pre-order yet. I read days ago on the forums here that people were hearing Steam copies of the game won't work with it. I just sympathize with people who did not know due to SE's failure to make note of something extremely important about the product on their product page.
