Need Clarification for the Steam Players...

I'm under the impression that Steam players must purchase their version of 3.0 through Steam.

What this means that a physical CE copy, digital copy or a physical copy would not work, since it is not the steam version.

While I'm waiting for more information from steam regarding their pre-orders, do we still have the option to get the collector's edition bonuses, or even the early-access codes if it is purchased through steam? I'm coming up with nothing from both the steam community or here.

If you buy a physical copy of any sort or a digital copy through anything other than Steam, you won't be able to connect it to your Steam-bought FFXIV account. You must purchase the Steam version if you own the game on Steam. Pre-orders will be available on Steam in the future. I assume that means standard & CE, but I haven't seen them actually say anything about it.

The community team announcement quite literally says, direct copy-paste, "In the meantime, please keep in mind that you can only upgrade your Steam-version of A Realm Reborn via a Steam version of Heavensward – others just won’t do!"

Steam will more likely sell the "Steam Digital Collector", including the "normal" digital collector in-game items as well as the pre-order bonuses.

But you're correct: you are not able to link any kind of version besides the Steam ones if you have purchased ARR through Steam. So, indeed, no physical collector dragon, artbook or blue ray for the Steam users.

Some people are saying the physical CE doesn't work with Steam, but there are rumors going around from Twitter and Facebook that customer service reps say it's compatible with Steam. I, too, would like a straight up, honest answer from someone in authority.

I'd rather hear full confirmation from SE than from their re-seller Steam/Valve. Once SE has a clear, official statement then I'll believe it.

The statement wasn't from Valve, the Community Team posted the announcement on the FFXIV Steam announcements page. Extra confirmation on the forum is never a bad thing I guess.

Here's to the mass exodus off of Steam! Because, even if you don't want this physical CE, they've made a clear precedent. So if you think you might ever want a box for FFXIV you should re-buy it off of Steam and get the Heavensward for it. Better to re-buy just the core game now rather than more down the line.

Geh... I would still like some more official confirmation since customer service has given me mixed answers. What I'd also like some info on is the early access... I'm not too sure if my static was serious or not when he wanted us to be raid ready by the time Alexander is ready (not to mention I want to enjoy the story and possibly switch jobs.)

Guess theres nothing to do but twiddle my thumbs for more info then.

How are they not able to simply link something bought on your SE account, which is obviously already registered with SE, to your SE account?

This is extremely frustrating and unnecessary. Unless they've got some sort of deal with steam to make that money, then its frustrating, unnecessary, and greedy.
