Wouldn't be so sure about Bard's being put to work...I'm betting one of the new classes has a target-able mp refresh version of goad.

This is the most likely happening. People talk a big game but I can't imagine that DRK is going to bring a boatload of new people to tanking on any more than a temporary basis. Certainly people will flock to the new stuff, but there'll be three new shinies all at the same time.

I'm sure, at Heavensward, lots of statics will shake up roles and the like, but I just don't see the tank population changing much in proportion to how it is now.

    I'm with this guy.

I play a tank because I like tanking and I'm going to try DRK out and, barring terrible weakness, most likely will main it for 3.x raiding since Warrior bores me to tears and Paladin is getting a little stale. So I'm looking forward to it, and I doubt many 'DPS going DRK' will stay that way since tanking isn't something many people enjoy doing.

With so many playing death knight healers will get all the adventurer in need bonuses (HOORAY)

However 3 more new classes means that unless we get more chests or armor get cross classed, the 1/10 chance of loot for your class just dropped to 1/13 now that we have that many classes.
This will piss off alot of raiders who want their weekly loot, and it will only get harder.

The only people who should confuse it would be the new/lapsed players; but for the most part I see it happening very rarely.

Maybe not so much, machinist supposedly have an ability for MP tick shots, but all the old jobs will have new abilities when expansion comes. I just said bards coz they are the current "refresher support job" with mp. Can only speculate who will be the "ideal" or "preferred" party setup for Drk as tank.

God jeese, its not that hard to learn to tank. In fact, tanking is the easiest freaking job in the game, especially for PLD. Where is this high and mighty attitude coming from?

As there is a difference between a damage dealer and a Damage Dealer, there's a difference between a tank and a Tank. Tanking is not only about holding enmity. Our main job is to protect the party, so yeah, if you wanna be a tank That only does That, your job is simple... But the real tanking is way more interesting, and way harder to learn.

You have to quickly gauge your team, in terms of gear and in terms of psychology, to make sure everything stays under control when you decide to take initiatives. Tanks are often parties' leaders because.. Well, we're the ones leading the party, literally, and that's what being a tank is about. I'm not saying we are chosen, superior to those filtby damage dealers and those damned hippies calling themselves healers. Some "DD going DRK" may become better tanks that I've ever been and will ever be, but not everyone can be a Tank, as not everyone can be a Healer, as not everyone can be a DPS. People are different.

Probably not, at least since the comment made by YoshiP during the PAX event. If I remember correctly, the phrase went down something like, "For those who would run raids and not get any loot for weeks... rest assured, the loot system is changing in 3.0!"

A FC member and I have begun speculating what that could be, and the most logical one is something similar to the antique armor drops. Let's say an "antique" chest piece drops, and anyone can roll on it, then whoever gets it can go and trade it in for their class piece.

Are we including DPS into that roster?

My 'worry' is not so much will a DRK tank be a good one or not, is how long it will tank a new DRK tank to be able to hold aggro, as a consideration towards how geared will a DRK tank be at the start of it's progression. I.e. will the Dark Knight have gear at the start to be able to tank a darn thing, or will it be going through the usual gear progression, that prevents said such from being able to hold aggro, in a party with the same overgeared older Jobs, that makes for tanking 'heck' (at least,) for PLD and WAR tanks, undergeared as they are, as a fresh 50 tank is.

If a new 50 DRK tank 'has' the gear at the start, to hold aggro, that a fresh 50 PLD/WAR doesn't, at roll start, then said PLD/WAR types should complain at the devs, a tad bit. (Even if we all can play the same Jobs, regardless.) As such, I expect just because a DRK tank can start at 50, doesn't mean they will have the gear to tank properly. No Staples 'that's easy' button there, for DRK tanks, I suspect.
