All the insecure male tears in this thread made me laugh.

All the lovely responses by people who don't give a crap about/are trying to break down the ridiculous gender binary warmed my heart. Good on the FFXIV community for being some of the more reasonable and intelligent people I've seen in an MMO.

I love FFXIV, don't get me wrong... but it does, at times, feel very feminine. The male Hyur animations, for example, seem feminine, most of the males in this game are either "old" or "pretty boys", and everything is very "cute".

Now, in some ways, those things are actually refreshing. The clothing and armor designs in this game are absolutely beautiful, far beyond anything I've ever seen in an MMO, and I love that the game is willing to be lighthearted and "fun", or that it's not afraid to have pleasant scenary instead of "war-ravaged battlefields".

Yet at the same time, I *DESPISE* the Race-choices available, which is why the Au Ra are so disappointing to me. They have masculine animations, but they look just as dainty as the Elezen do, and frankly, I just don't want that. I want my character to look powerful and physically intimidating, yet still athletic. The Roegadyn certainly look powerful, but definitely not athletic, and seem more "fat" than "fit". The Au Ra's artwork looks awesome, but the in-game models we've seen are just way too thin, to me.

Correct, I misspoke. I forgot it was a DPS piece and not a tank piece (it's been a while since I've had a pre-50 class). It is BiS for DPS classes for the stated times, but never BiS (or mechanically useful) for tank classes. Apologies! I remember someone complaining that it was BiS and they felt compelled to wear it even though they were offended by how it looked, but I think they were a BRD, not a PLD.

Regarding footwear to wear with the boobplate, what about The Emperor's New Shoes? I guess the default sandals kinda mess with that. Honestly, I wish there was a barefoot option - the default sandals are kinda meh. For armwear that goes with the boobplate, I'd strongly recommend Claws of the Beast (the dyable long sharp nails from the Golden Saucer for 30k MGP). They're kinda amazing.

JP aesthetics, sadly, tend toward "dainty" men. And women, but men too. Personally, I wish the female hyur were less dainty. I kinda want to stop being a catgirl and go midlander hyur instead, but I can't stand some of the female midlander hyur animations.

You both were advocating the concept of Pink-Blue Reversal, the idea that somehow before a certain time pink was the standard color for boys and blue for girls and that it somehow reversed in the 40s or 50s. That concept has been debunked, as shown in the article I linked:

Of course it ultimately is going to come down to personal preference. Thats obvious. But this idea that the colors are so arbitrary that they were completely reversed not even 100 years ago is totally bunk.
I really don't know how I should reply to this. I think you are missing the point of the article it's about the development of our individual color preferenses, in comparison to our other individual preferences, toys, clothes, etc, and what factors effect them and to what degree. Nothing is stated about the general concensus of gender colors. Plus they even state that there were uncontrolable variable that might of skewed their results; like the fact that the study was done in our time, where the concensus is pink for girls and blue for boys. This study really has nothing to do with the general concensus.

A slightly easier way to see this is to look at some old animated movies, around or prior to the 50s, Disney wold be best. You'll see more girls in blue and guys in red; not saying you wont see the reverse either. The best example is Peter Pan, Wendy is wearing Blue, and Michael the youngest, was wearing pink. But notice how in the sequel, Return to Neverland, the colors for the children are reversed, but made a little more neutral.

I should also state that the concensus only started around the begining of the 20th centery, prior to that color wasn't gender specific; at least not how we know. Remember, some cultures don't have a "pink" to them its all just a form of Red.

Also, the poster mentioned that it was BiS for an incredibly small period of time for DoW classes, and went on to talk about the Sentinel set for Tanks. I thought it was implicit from that that the DoW meant DPS classes other than tanks since tank armor was specifically mentioned separately.
I understand what you was saying, with it being allowed to be put on by tanks, but i was kinda pointing out that none of the proper tank gear is like that, in fact most of it is "Manly" heavy plate styled Armour. In fact all of the tanking gear is very bulky and Armoured in looks.
