Sure, why not. We have three months until the expansion and then the relic update at 3.1 so you have time. I wouldn't recommend going all out to make it the absolute best unless you have the cash to blow though.

What exactly is involved in obtaining the Soldiery weapon? As I said, on my main, I only ever used my relic after I obtained it.

Allagan Tomestone, obtainable through Syrcus Tower and Second Coil, and 10 Rowena Tokens of soldiery (1,300 soldiery in total).

Edit: You'll also need a Sands of Time to upgrade it from i100 to i110. Conversely, you can get the Ice Daggers and upgrade them to 115, or do turn 9 for (rng dependent) High Allagan Cleavers.

Best, no possible way when the Soldiery weapon caps at 130 and the Zodiac caps at 135 with your personalized stats.

I meant best as in immediately. Obviously Dreadwyrm and Zeta are the best weapons currently.

To answer OP: no. Ain't worth the time and the potential zombification you may suffer (potentially more times than just once) while doing it. And the gil wasted on it.

I think Akashi meant 1300 soldiery tokens total, 10 rowena tokens at 130 each. Plus the tombstone to get the weathered version and Sands of time to upgrade it.

Zodiac is a lesson in pain. You'll agonize over the fact you're locked into one class while you grind away for Book completions, Alexandrites and Light. You'll curse everything under the sun that you're stuck with a level 100 weapon which has the stats of a level 90 while you complete arduous tasks. Yet, because you've already got that far you'll still want to see it through to the end, despite all the nuisance.

Incidentally, I've been grinding light for the last month and I'm not even 30% of the way towards completion yet. It's a cruel grind, and has all the entertainment value of swallowing razor blades and washing it down with lemon juice. Which is to say, not much.

Well I guess it really depends on how much time you have on your hands... I've gotten half the light I need so far in about a week.

Though honestly the alexandrite grind almost killed me. I never, ever, ever want to do that again. This light grind in comparison is like a breath of fresh air.

Personnaly, i'm just starting to upgrade my curtana.
I want my excalibur before the expansion.

But it's just because i already have atmas, alexandrites, materias and the 4 items from dungeons drop.
So for me it's just animus and light farming.
Or else i wouldn't do it.

These are how many weeks i spent on each update for my Lilith Rod :
atmas : 16 weeks (...)
animus : 3 weeks
novus : 8 weeks (1 alexandrite per roulette = 75 days minimum but you can buy some with soldiers)
nexus : 12 weeks (did my daily roulette expert and trial, frontline when delay is not too long)
zodiac : 3 weeks
zeta : still working on it but for me i suppose it will be done in 2 weeks (yes i know some people can do it in 1 day)

Of course, i didn't try Bahamut thing and extreme primals, didn't had time.
This is why i plan to going back to FFXI if these weapons are trashed with first expansion.
In FFXI, all relics/mythics are still updated (sometimes a bit later but they are) and it's a proof of respect for me.

I'm on my animus (book #6 woot!) for my main job (got frustrated w/ the atmas). I'm going to continue working steadily on the books and then gathering alexandrite...but I'm not super stressing over it. It would be nice, but not a huge deal. My husband doesn't even has his relic for his main job XD
