Should I Work on Zodiac: Yay or Nay?

So recently I finally leveled my first alt. I main SMN, but have just gotten my NIN to 50. This has raised a question for me about gearing up my NIN. I'm really curious if I should get into working on actually completing my Zodiac weapon or not. On my SMN, I made it through the Atma phase and kind of just let it sit at that. At that point GS had just come out and I had just started working on leveling my NIN and basically got distracted.

Well now that my NIN is 50 and I can start thinking about the future, I'm really having a hard time deciding whether or not I should start up the Zodiac quest or not. I really don't have a problem with giving it my all and working towards my Zeta, but at the same time I know Heavensward is in a matter of months, and I'm worried it would get here before I even have the chance to FINISH my Zeta, before making it somewhat useless anyway.

So my question is this: Should I start the Zodiac quest and work my butt off to get to Zeta before the expansion drops? And if not, what's my next truly viable option as far as weapons go for my NIN? To date, I've only completed Garuda EX as far as EX Primals go, and have done BCoB T1-T4 and that's it as far as "high end" content. Mostly on my main I spent a lot of time in all three CT raids to gear up, but never moved past my relic weapon. I don't want to make the same mistake twice, and would really like to play my NIN to the best of my abilities.

Do it. At the very least, I feel everyone should have 1 relic up-to-date. You can relate to others when they talk about, and get those achievement points

Other options would be Vajras or Wootz Daggers.

Keep in mind it seems they plan to add new relics in 3.1. You can complete your Zodiac if you want, but just know that it will probably not be the BiS come expansion. Yoshi mentioned wanting to give people with a Zodiac some kind of perk or edge when it comes to the new relics (probably getting to skip some initial grind?), but we'll just have to wait and see.

I am already in the process of upgrading mine, but now am seriously wondering if it's worth finishing (especially during the alex phase), since it may be better to just save my gil.

Honestly... no. I mean, if you want to do it on the side, then I highly recommend it, but the soldiery weapon would be your best and easiest option.

It just hurts my soul a bit that I didn't keep going back when Atma we the NEW thing; I wish I'd have stuck to it got it done then, and I could have gradually done the new phases along with everyone else. Now I feel like I'm in this mad rush to get it all done at once lol. Not that I'm complaining. (I know it sounds like I am) It just seems like a VERY intimidating undertaking...and maybe it's not, and I'm blowing it all out of proportion. I don't have this urge to be THE BEST Ninja or anything, but I'd like to feel comfortable with my DPS and my ability to play the content with everyone else.

What exactly is involved in obtaining the Soldiery weapon? As I said, on my main, I only ever used my relic after I obtained it.
