If MMO=grinding your eyes out to play even a minigame then yeah, I guess. I subbed because FFXIV was different when I bought it, but with all these drawn out grinds they've put everywhere in the lastest patches it's playing exactly like those free games with stamina bars. I thought paying every month would mean avoiding those annoying mechanics meant to rush you to the cash shop to buy boosters, but the amount of time it takes to get anything done is the same, no reason to stick with the one that has me pay a sub when I can get the same experience for free.
It's an MMORPG no matter how hard you want to believe it isn't. No matter how much you wish the genre wasn't like this, it is. MMORPGs draw from basic RPG design, of which itself was drawn out from heavy HEAVY RNG design. Ever heard of D&D? If you take the RNG (see root RPG) out of the equation, you get games like FFXIII. An RPG on rails. In other words, it's no longer what anyone truly familiar to the genre could honestly call an MMORPG. It'd be like someone wanting to believe that FPS games were not really in first-person... sorry, but it is?
