Yes I got the last one yesterday, and now am doing the clams. Having pretty good luck with them so far...
Anecdotally, that has not been my experience with clams. The difference in my catch rate/get away/break the jig when I eat spinach quiche vs haddock, is noticeable. I only did 3 runs on each food so it's still within acceptable variance. But it sure "felt" Like Spinach caught more fish.
How would you gage 30% on Ninja Betas get away rates? There are multiple fish that could be "getting away" in Mor Dhona. You'd never know if it Was a Ninja Beta or something else, right? Without doing eorzean days worth of fishing, and keeping track in a spreadsheet, or having a link from a developer, we can't go with our gut on this. Because bait and weather are also variables that affect catch rates.
Have caught 15 hq in the last day and a half using nq haddock dip. 362 gathering and 309 perception.Anecdotally, that has not been my experience with clams. So I have met the min gathering for this guy and always go with food, but when he gets away it tells me my gathering is too low. Is that what normally happens?
Yep. You can catch the clam if you're above... wait what? 362?

Lead me to believe you needed 375.

Says as low as 348.
Anyway.
The point is, because weather counts and there are lots of other variables, the idea that one knows, that more gathering above the min requirement = 0 effect... is just ludicrous. That might be true. But you don't know that from fishing betas for an eorzean hour.
The only thing we know, is if you're gathering is too low, you can't catch the fish. Unless someone can link to a developer blog, where they said it?
@writeraeria, no, that's not normal for Olgoi. Sometimes you catch him, and sometimes he gets away and it says, "Your gathering is too low?" This is happening after a mooch of that flying fish?
Are you sure you're fishing at Sagolii Dunes (X:26 Y:36)?
Sagolii Desert (X:12 Y:36) has two big fish; Magic Carpet and Helicoprion and the latter you will get insufficient gathering with minimum for Olghoi.
There's only one fish that could be "getting away" in The Tangle, which is the only place you can catch Ninja Betta. That one fish is Ninja Betta. There is only one bait that can catch Ninja Betta: Assassin Betta, a mooch fish. Weather has an effect, but if the wrong weather is up, you'll never even hook a Ninja Betta, let alone have one get away.
So, it's very, very easy to gauge Ninja Betta catch rates. If you Mooch with Assassin Betta there's only two possible fish you can catch: Another Assassin Betta, or the Ninja Betta. Assassin Betta will never "get away", so if a fish does get away, that was a Ninja Betta. Even if you believe that Assassin Betta COULD get away, it's easy to tell when you've hooked a Ninja because the catch and reel-in animations for a Big Fish are much different than that of a regular fish.
Yeah, the first time I was at the wrong spot. It's so weird it's telling me I don't have enough. Thanks for the reply, I'm going to have to keep trying to figure it out.
Also minimum requirement is Gathering 348, or at least 349 which is the amount I had when I fished Olghois up.
Let me clarify: having more gathering won't noticeably help. It might make a difference, but if it does, the difference is not large. Plenty of people report long grinds with very high stats, and quick grinds with low stats. If you were catching hundreds or thousands of the fish, having more gathering might make a noticeable impact, but with only 2-5 fish needed (based on HQ/NQ splits), you will not notice a difference. Can you link to a source on that? My understanding was that it worked similar to MIN & BTN. You need X gathering to be able to see it, then each 3-10 gathering added you got 1% higher chance of connecting until you reached 95% at which point it caps without skill buffs.
My understanding was, the higher the Gathering, the less Fish Got Away, you would receive.
With small sample sizes, RNG is king.
