Believe me, Ogloi is plenty slippery, even WITH quality gear. It just comes with a high escape rate built-in, and better gear doesn't do a lot to fix that. There are many Big Fish with this trait - Anomalocaris, for example, escaped my line like thirty times before I caught it, and I was wearing top-notch equipment that put me at roughly 50 gathering higher than that required to catch it.

As long as you're not getting a message saying "your skill is too low", you have sufficient gear to catch the fish, and adding additional Gathering won't do much, if anything, to lower the escape rate.

So I have met the min gathering for this guy and always go with food, but when he gets away it tells me my gathering is too low. Is that what normally happens?

Are you sure you're fishing at Sagolii Dunes (X:26 Y:36)?

Sagolii Desert (X:12 Y:36) has two big fish; Magic Carpet and Helicoprion and the latter you will get insufficient gathering with minimum for Olghoi.

Also minimum requirement is Gathering 348, or at least 349 which is the amount I had when I fished Olghois up.

I catch 1-3 storm riders hq/ wave only and hope that better tool may help to increase this amount and number of olgoi catch attempts.

I always used sand leeches.

Having over the minimum numbers do not increase bite rate or decreàse fish gets away message in my experience. Once you get the minimum gathering it's all rng.

bite rateis entirely RNG, more gathering however does reduce getting away rate, hq spinach quiche reduces this by about 25% vs no food
