both blizz and se will do whatever it takes , it may mean ffxiv will never need to go ftp, but don't be naive , that the possibility is ALWAYS there , no matter what we are told.

mind you ftp/sub for wow or here wouldn't matter to me, I would continue to play both

I really dont think they need to worry about competing with Elder Scrolls Online. The game is pretty bad.

If everyone was paying attention Yoshida explained a long time ago why FFXIV likely wont go f2p any time soon. They dont really have to worry about investors like Zenimax and Bethesda do or Bioware, did who expect immediate returns (which btw is absolutely incredibly retarded to expect when it comes to an MMO).

One of the things guaranteed to kill an MMO is a parent company that doesn't understand what the hell to do with it.
This is why PW's games, despite their fluctuating quality, are actually successful while ESO and the like flounder. PW actually knows how to run an MMO. It's their entire business. Zenimax and companies that are basically just investment firms just want pretty numbers without the comprehension that you need to EARN those pretty numbers.

I would have said this before too. But when I did a free trial of WoW for the first time a couple months ago I saw a massive server list. I saw 4 servers listed as FULL at 3am!

I knew WoW was popular and changed MMO's forever, but the numbers didn't really sink in until I saw that server list. To think that they're all perfectly happy paying a subscription for a game that probably runs on the original Nintendo is what baffles me now.

Tbh, Free-to-Play is just a synonim to Pay-To-Win, it will induce a huge game disbalance as well as bring a Tsunami of Bots and RMT along the tide, I take Lineage 2 as an example, after all, servers, employees do not run/get paid on/with air and unfortunatly money does not grow on trees so far..
Its better to pay like 15$ or € and have a quality game than not having to pay and watching it become trash.

Going back to what i said about a game's model being mutually exclusive from its quality, "F2P" and "P2W" games are not necessarily synonymous either.
There are some GOOD games made on the F2P model that offer absolutely nothing in the cash shop you can't earn normally, or offer a way to acquire the cash shop currency in-game. PW and SOE/Daybreak games are actually pretty good about this.
People just need to separate "this thing I can buy in the cash shop gives me a competitive advantage" from "this thing I can buy in the cash shop makes me look pretty" and "this thing I can buy in the cash shop saves me 20 friggin hours of gameplay"There's actually good examples of "p2w" and "f2p" within the same company: SOE's PlanetSide 2 offers guns in the game in the cash shop. Since they really do offer a competitive advantage, you really are paying to win. You CAN earn most of the guns through gameplay, but this isn't like extra bag slots or exp boosters: buying the gun basically guarantees kills.
Conversely, SOE's EQ games don't offer anything other than EX boosts, bags, and "heroic" characters that really affect the game itself. All of which are massive time savers rather than giving you an actual advantage in the game, the "heroic" characters especially as the level cap is currently over 100.
People who think F2P=P2W are usually playing the "I want everything in the game as fast as possible" game, which you really shouldn't play if you're playing an online video game.

LMAO! I like the Elder Scrolls series but FFXIV doesn't have anything to worry about.

Destiny is free to play? I'm pretty sure you have to buy it right? Is its DLC free? How about that PS+/Xbox Live subscription you have to pay?

Destiny on PC? When did they add Destiny on PC? Destiny is F2P but you can't do much without playstation+/XB live, you need to buy DLCs Crota's End was $20 (unless you bought the expansion pass for $35). All in all Destiny is dead Bungie failed. I had over 500hrs before the 1st DLC dropped and I stopped playing during all that lizard squad xmas crap, Jumped on a few weeks ago to PvP with my lil bro and its even more broken than before. This is what happens to games that aren't P2P, Either that or they try to suck every dollar out of you.

I will gladly continue to pay my entry subscription and so will my girlfriend. The only way we will stop playing is if this game goes F2P. We are happy with the quality updates we are receiving.

I spend more on coffee each week. Is 15 bucks really that much money? (13 bucks for me, for the basic entry sub)

I HATE free to play!!! I think the majority of the MMO playing community is 18+ and have jobs. Free to play just forces the devs to add a crap load of stupid gimmicks / limitations to the game. FF14 is doing well as a p2p game. Keep it that way.
