As you may have a point on which was a port of which, a lot of evidence suspects that the PC version was a port of the PS3 version.

Notice a lot of problems on the PC version (most fixed now) interface wise was poor porting of the PS3 version.

I could be wrong, but a lot of things in the game feels and caters more to a console setup. Notice it is a lot better to use a controller than the keyboard when it was first released. FFXI was like this also, but we all know that the PC version was in fact a port of the PS2 version.

the reason for the console setup is the same as it was for FFXI, and even though FFXIV was made for PC first this time, it is still a console style RPG.

It's not that way for everyone.

In addition to the battle leves, there are an assortment of faction leves. And there are behests at every camp. There are also 3 gathering classes each with their own set of leves in each city state. And there are 8 crafting classes with multiple leves in each city as well.

Admittedly leves can get very repetitive if you choose to do the same ones over and over. But you can also choose to do different locations and different jobs as well. ^^

I don't know how up to date this quest list is, but according to this list on Zam there are 126 quests and side quests.

I wonder how many people have done even half of them?

And of course there are the dungeons now. And despite all of the expert players here being able to clear them easily with their eyes closed, no one was ever obligated to do them as speed runs to get the treasure chests.

You can call us silly, but my main LS still fights its way through Dzemael and just got to the ogre for the first time the other night -- with 1 minute left on the timer so we got to see the movie before getting wiped. ^^
We're slow. We're fairly disorganized. But I can tell you that we're having a heck of a lot of fun.

I still profess that one's goal and purpose for playing determines what you can get out of this game.

    1. If we want to reach level cap and get all the best gear as quickly as possible, yes, we can make this into a long boring grind. And once at the top, there probably isn't much to do.

    2. On the other hand, if someone likes variety, the freedom to play a multitude of jobs, and even have fun with friends around the setting of a fantasy RPG world, then FFXIV has a lot to offer.

I'd caution the OP and anyone else considering this game to think about what they enjoy in a game, then decide if FFXIV's style is right for them.

    Sorry this turned into a wall of text. ^^;

This is the best way I can put this..... Im waitin on the PS3 version to drop as well BUT I dont want it to be like when the PC version came out..... broken and people trash talked it to death... because it was rushed b4 it was finished and you got serious lag, people quitting, and a team workin day and night tryin to give the players what they want. The PS3 version from what im hearing is suppose to put FFXIV back on the map

I know a quick way to play the PS3 version early!!! It's actually simple!

1.) Get a decent gaming PC I run a 2.3ghz Quad core with 8gigs of ram and HD radeon 5770 all my settings are on standerd mostly and it runs just fine. (I will however be getting a better gaming rig to max settings out ^_^)

2.) Buy a 6 foot USB extender with a Type B mini USB connector on one end and buy an HDMI cable and plug your PC up to your flat screen HDTV (I use a 52" Sony Bravia I thought it was 55 but it's 52.)

3.) Download a program called Motionjoy and plus your PS3 controller up to the PC (follow motionjoys instructions, Also I use an old Six Axis control no dualshock 3 why? because it's lighter and I don't use the vibrate function.)

    4.) Profit?????

If you follow the steps walla! your playing FFXIV from the comfort of your couch or recliner just like me!!!

When I first bought the game, I didn't mind the fact that the game would be broken either... actually I pretty much expected it to happen with an MMO title and thought they would fix the issues in no time. I thought they would clean up the interface lag, remedy their engine problems, and start churning out great end-game content that was more innovative and ground-breaking than the competition's.

Unfortunately I didn't anticipate being that freakin' wrong..........

One year later, the game is shaping up to be the terminally-ill lovechild of an incestuous fling that never should've happened between FFXI, WoW, and National Geographic.
