So many things to do? Really? Like what? Grind boring and repetitive Leves for hours on end? No thanks.

The side-quests and dungeons are pretty nice, but there's far too few of them in the game right now, certainly not enough to make the ridiculous (not to mention wrong) claim that FFXIV has a wealth of content, because it doesn't.

Maybe in a year or so after several much needed content patches, you will be able to say FFXIV has a lot to do, but right now there isn't much to do at all.

Actually no, Kailea_Nagisa is right. The PS3 version is the port this time, not the PC version. FFXIV is the opposite of FFXI in this respect.

While I suspect Rhianu and I disagree on a number of points.. as she says above, Final Fantasy XIV was created for the PC initially; it's the PS3 that will get the 'port.

As per the reference I made at the start of this thread: some time ago, a developer said that the game had been ported to the PS3 and was operating with acceptable frame rates.

And then they said that despite that, they wouldn't release the PS3 version until they weren't patching the thing as much as they are now, because patches are a lot less convenient to deploy over PSN compared to the PC version's bittorrent client and it would mean further dividing development time.

Which one is the port is kind of a moot question. The game was designed and planned with the original intention of being released on both systems. Being worked on in tandem, the developers have likely worked to the lowest common denominator between both systems rather than having one be considered a port of the other - a term that usually indicates one version is inferior to the other.

The Crystal Tools Engine that they are using has already been made use of in a game on both the PS3 and XBox360 (FFXIII), showing that it can be used on more than one platform without breaking.

So I deem the issue irrelevant.

still an issue that must be cleared up, better that people know the truth then random guessing are assumption. Although, yes even though the PS3 version is the port this time, they are still taking in the matter of the PS3 limitations because the game has to run on both system.

I remember reading an interview back in late 2009 where SE said they wanted to make the PC version the original version this time around because they learned with FFXI on the PS2 that it's very difficult to take a console game and port it over to new consoles (which is why FFXI never got released on PS3), while a PC game can be ported much easier.

Basically they made the decision to develop FFXIV primarily for the PC first so that they would have the freedom and flexibility to more easily port it to a greater number of future systems down the road than they were able to with FFXI.

as much as i would love to see the major influx of customers that a hurried ps3 release would being i just don't see it as a smart move by se atm. i only say this because we seen the response from the players when the pc was released in it only took a few months to go to the skeleton group we have on the servers now. the influx of people the ps3 crowd would bring would be great for the short term, but i just worry that we would have the same exodus we had in the pc release if it was done now.

se is taking the ps3 as the official relaunch of the game and wants it in good shape before they repeat the mistake. when ps3 comes out i want the game to be in good enough shape to not only bring a ton of new players in, but to be able to keep them in game. se is getting a chance not many companies get in the fact that they have a second chance to revive the game and i don't want to see them fall short.

i know waiting sucks and patience is thin atm, but let's hold off until the game actually gets to be fun so it will be better for the long haul of the game and not for a few short months.

"Customers?" We're in Super Extended Deluxe Beta 9000 Mode right now The game is being propped up by the subscription fees paid by FFXI players.

More "customers" like us and S-E will go bankrupt.

i was just referring to the influx of players on the servers. yes, we are still customers even though you say beta since we did buy the game originally. i know alot will leave once the game improves and goes pay to play, but as long as i enjoy the game i will not be one of them.

people that bought any game se has made are still customers even though they may have bought a single player rpg. if you buy something from another you are their customer. if you continue to use their service by paying a renewing fee you become a consumer.
