I used to before I reached 3 stars. Now I don't anymore because every piece of vanity is walled behind rare drops and demimaterias and the requirements for Lucis tools are too much to even try to bother (especially since I have to do it for all classes), and that's not even counting RNG. I started crafting to make my own glamour, but it's clearly not an option since I have to shell a lot of money on the MB anyway to buy the map drops required for the good looking stuff. The time, money and effort put into making a freaking pj is not worth it. Might as well buy it from the MB.

Yeah i'm into gathering a lot,i check mb first then go fill in areas where i can make good profit, there was a period of a few days after gs was released where mats were in short supply and i made a killing (my first million actually),mostly mid level mats.

    I think that's what i'll stick with mostly,saves space,saves money,makes money.

I've loved crafting since the beginning, but the interest is starting to wane. The 3.9* book process just destroyed me. The streaky nature of the game's RNG is very difficult to recover from unless you're doing major volume. As for materia melding, I think they should up the success rate and down the attainability of the best materia. Blowing millions can be difficult to swallow, whereas grinding out the materia isn't so bad. You'd actually feel like you were moving forward.

You know I've always wondered, if any of yall kept track.

Do you actually end up making money over all? I mean I'm sure at one point or another you will sit on a larger deposit of gil than an average guy. But I'd imagine you will blow it on the MB for mats and components.

And think ratio wise, not gil wise, like "I've spent 80% of my gil" rather than "I've spent 5 million gil" since the currency value always changes. (I mean I remember at 2.0 RMT was selling 100k for 5 bucks, now they are selling 1000k for 5 bucks)

I'm sure most crafters who say that crafting makes money actually HAVE money.. I don't doubt that at all.
Many crafters I know that are 4 stars have 10 million + and some even 100 million +

That said, in the time you spent to craft, you could probably just go out spiritbonding full time and make just as much, if not more.

Why do I craft? Convenience, I don't like to rely on other people to be logged on / search for a crafter to do what I need done.. AND it saves money. Although the second part's a moot point since I'm just saving money on crafting gear by making my own. I feel like high tier market board (1m+) items are just money being traded between crafters..

You need to play your cards right. I invested probably about 6mil in total getting supras for all my crafts, and I sell 3-4 star crafting services (specifically foragers, artisans and platinum accessories) for around 700k-800k each, with them providing the mats. There's also the convenience factor of being able to craft for your FC

Crafting was mundane until I learned to HQ. Then once you learn how to properly HQ you want to HQ everything. It is like an addiction. I try to HQ furniture and other items that can't be HQ. I was making someone's relic weapon and I still wanted to HQ it, even though it would be destroyed by that jerk Gerolt.

I agree on demateria, it is a joke and too many recipes are gated behind demateria. But the lucis does not bother me, It is mostly grind. You get one item through levy quests, one item from gathering and the rest GC seals or dungeons and maps.
Supra is the joke in my opinion. It is just about money and not crafting, you dont have to HQ for them. Is about buying demateria if you dont have Desyth high enough.

I still love crafting but demateria has taken it down a notch. RNG is another thing that is too off that I mentioned in a previous post.

I still think I've made more money (and funded 4*/supras entirely) through selling Mastercraft Demis (Desynth) and Tier IV materia (SBing). This stuff just sells so much faster and has a higher demand than 4*. The window for viability on most of the armor is within the first few weeks of release before it dies to a halt.

Also, people paying 700k and they provide the mats? People complain about 400k being too much on my server.

I agree, I am 4 star crafter in 4, 3 stars in the rest. I think I still saved enough money to at least break even by making my own off hands and artisan gear. But that's about all I'm willing to do with it.
If my friends ask, I'll craft them an item free of fee of course. But that's all the purpose it'll serve me. I don't want to sit in cities and advertise for hours on end to find a single customer with RNG based results that the other party has no control over, too many ways it could go wrong. (Hell, I could even just craft a darksteel nugget and do a bunch of quality actions and say, hey. I'm out of durability, CS2 won't complete this rotation, Rapid Synthesis will.. do you want me to just reclaim or rapid synth? and I could just fail the craft and say whoops, I failed!) and keep the mats.. of course that's a scam, but you know what I mean. The other party will never know for 100% what your intention was..

Having said that, I find it easier to make my money just processing raw materials into refined mats (nuggets, ingots, etc.)
That way, I can sell at a bulk a lot faster. Not have to worry about undercutting etc. etc.
