To be fair, it's no one's job to teach another how to play their role right or even how to speed run, but it'd be hard to disagree that speed and learning don't usually go hand in hand, especially in dungeons.
Best way to learn is by doing.
With a new fighting game, I put into training mode, put the CPU at the max difficulty, and get thrashed between reading wikis and watching videos about the game.

I had a similar experience with XIV. I hadn't healed much in MMOs when ARR launched, so I had a lot of learning to do, and at 50, everyone wanted to speedrun AK. So I learned it, and now can confidently do any sort of speedrun in the game, and can confidently do speed runs of new dungeons after doing them once normally.

The community will not baby through dungeons like you and very few others seem to want it to. When there is a new person, groups will throttle themselves a bit if it's a new healer or tank, so that's already a non-issue.

When I first reached post 50 dungeons I was a bit nervous about speed runs, or I should say large pulls. I ended up in AK one time and asked the group about the large pulls as I have never done them. They were very helpful and nice. They talked me through each one. Got it done, no one died and was one of the best runs I ever had, very fun, I thought it was way easier than mob by mob. Now its all I'll do in a post 50 dungeon run. Heck some of them and HM dungeons go by so quick and easier than the pre-50 dungeons. Doing a book last night I ran CopperBell HM, WP and Brayflox NM. Brayflox took longer to do than the other 2 combined, and it was my first time in CB HM and WP.

Please find me the post where I said that exactly. You seem to have a penchant for both putting words in my mouth and misinterpreting what I actually say.

That aside, I certainly agree with learning through experience. However, I will be the one to make that choice each and every time. Personally, I learned to SR on all 3 roles and still just didn't like it at all. I especially grew to hate it when - with no communication - players lacking experience either attempted to SR, or forced others lacking experience to do so. The bigger issue is both lack of communication as previously mentioned, and the fact that a popular and optional method is essentially a forced standard now. Some will adapt, and that's great. Some won't, and they may or may not learn in the heat of battle. I'm known for saying "Can't burn it if you don't learn it", but the last thing I'd do is put a gun in a rookie's hand and say "hurry up and figure it out as we go!"

    But that's just me.

You type so much yet say so little. Trim your posts down and say what you mean rather than pontificating like you tend to do. Maybe then people won't have to sift through what you type to find what you're trying to say.

    Anyway,
since most people do speedruns, wouldn't that put people who share your sentiment in the minority?
Maybe you should form premade groups in the party finder. There's even an option to tick for "Taking it slow".
This seems to be a simple and elegant solution.

It's all there, right in the parts you generally overlook while you sift through for whatever will substantiate your rebuttal. But nice try though. And thanks for the net-terribly-original advice of "use the PF if you want to go slow", as if I perhaps didn't know that already (again, NOT the first time this has been discussed.) Thing is, just because people don't want to speed run does not mean they want to go slow.

This is probably the part you might sift through, so let me clarify: Would you disagree that it's possible to perhaps push your DPS and exercise a sense of urgency without necessarily resorting to typical speedrun tactics? [Insert "optimal/efficient" comment here], I know, but fact is just because someone doesn't want to/like to speedrun doesn't mean they want to take their sweet time. There IS a rather big grey area in between all that black and white logic there.

ok so from what i've seen...

there's one group of people that says you should do it at your own pace..
there's another group of people that says you should speedrun for "efficiency" or to test your skills and whatnot..
and there's Sousoulsu and ThirdChild_ZKI having their battles in this thread as well as others..

I have to agree with the former group.. if you queue as a tank, you control the pace.

    also,

Because these dungeons are boring now, and they only serve a purpose for getting other things.

So why would people want to waste time when it isnt necessary to.

I could quite honestly not care how fast the tank wants to run the dungeon, but I'd expect them to slow down or pull less if they realize they can't run it as fast as they think they can with the party they're with. I prefer running the dungeon as it was designed, because overestimating your "skill" results in wasting more time having to start the fights over again.

Does anyone on PS3/PS4 try to do speedpulls?
