The GATE is a simon-says game where an NPC does a series of emotes, and you have to do the same ones in the same order. There are racial NPCs on the ground and some Hyur on a platform up top. The OP is complaining that people keep purposefully standing on top of the racial NPCs on the ground preventing other people from seeing the emotes they're preforming. Yes, the OP could use the hyur NPCs up top, but hyur emotes are sometimes very different from, say, lala emotes, and it's not always clear which the NPC is preforming if you're not familiar with that race's emotes.
Please read topics before responding rather than spreading confusion. The OP clearly stated he was talking about the GATE named "The Time of My Life" and not attempting to duel someone in Triple Triad.

Oh, I got it confused with "Skinchange We Can Believe In." Now I'm really confused. How in the world are players standing over the NPCs when the NPCs are in the air way above the stage? I have never had any issues with this event due to players not being able to get up there. I just zoom camera out to max, then walk forward beyond the center so the cam moves right up to them.

I made a thread about this :3 but it got buried

Targeting the npc doesn't help when you have a huge male Roe in bulky armor completely blocking a smaller npc. Personally I haven't run into the issue too many times, but when I have it's been really annoying.
And even if we don't ignore the whole 'look at the npcs on the platform' solution (which isn't the best solution because even the gate suggests looking at an npc of the same race if you're having trouble), if someone does it in the middle of one of the turns, you might potentially miss out on part of the performance while moving yourself or the camera because someone decided to troll.
If you're lucky, one way that people have been working around it is to have people who know the emotes for the NPCs up on the platform call out the moves for people who might not be able to see the right character. Not the best solution, because you still have to trust the people involved, of course, but even just finding a partner who can send you a tell can help a lot. It's also a lot less fun, but it's better than nothing.
Yeah but there are 2 problems, at least for me.
1) The NPC on top platform in the middle are not of my race and I can't recognize all of the emotes, as I'm not familiar with them.
2) In order to see those NPCs, I have to zoom out to a certain distance, which makes them seem small on my screen, and makes it even harder to see the emotes.
You can position your character to be somewhat ahead of the floating platform and adjust the camera from there so that you get a close up on the NPCs above you.
I don't know why so many people are suggesting to use the NPCs above. It was stated more than once that some people are unfamiliar with other race's emotes, that's kind of why they have a male/female version of each race.
And this is actually a really annoying problem. One of my FCmates just unlocked the GS and this event was up so I decided to take her to it and a huge Roe male sat on top of the female Lala. I told her the moves so she did the GATE correctly, but that she was pretty discouraged by the whole thing.
