Currently Playing - WAR/DRK/PLD, WHM, DRG, MIN

this is what i typically aim for
some of these hits though do so little damage it really isnt worth moving, like granite rain on the second dragon in keeper, especially considering its knockback seems basically non existent if you just stand in the center and eat it compared to getting caught with the edge and flung half the platform away

You have to dodge the telegraphs, as they hurt quite a bit making the healer's job more stressful, when you have 1-3 mobs you can dodge, and move back in before the mob moves to attack you. If you are mass pulling dodging the telegraphs become harder, but please if you are pulling groups of about 10 or more (like hatali HM etc) don't be moving unnecessarily, you are making the melee's job (aoe already sucks) more difficult than it needs to be (use HG and if you are a warrior use vengeance and just try not to move too much). I recently had this happen in Hatali HM with a paladin tank, and he was running around like a chicken with its head cut off; I was on my monk and wasted PB and couldn't even get a rockbreaker off (already positioning sucks for this skill and you can only spam it every 3 min). Suffice it to say the tank quickly died.

This is my favorite answer. You should try to keep the direction of the mob(s) as consistent as possible. Not doing so in certain cases, especially with bosses, can result in getting your other party members cleaved.

Yep. When fighting a group of mobs running in a circle around them will usually group them up ( casters excluded) then step back and bam. Their all stacked and facing you. For frontal conals that are telegraphed runnin thru them and back as soon as the cone dissappears will solve the movement issue

To me tanking is about taking the damage the others can't. Every punch you take is one they don't have to.
That being said, if they weren't gonna take the punch anyways, move.
This guy gets it. Any single mobs, they should never really move cuz you can be back in position. Mass pulls really the only thing that can even kill a tank. Dodge dodge dodge.
Drg of all jobs should get over it. They can dps from the front and not see any appreciable difference in their dps.

This sums it up and the combination of Jamillion. The only time I see mobs moving is in group pulls and I want to live.
This is also a useful tactic for playing bullet hell shooters.
Also, what bad DPS do I need to whack for using singletarget positionals in a group pull?
310 potency per rotation is a noticable loss in DPS. The additional 400-600 potency per GCD you are losing by not doom spiking a large group pull is much more noticable, though.

video games are bad
Dodge, A dragoon or Monk should be able to keep buffs up even with you moving. The "buff" to dragoon make this easier, you dont always have to be at the side to get the buff up. Its just not has strong.
