Luckily the relic weapon is entirely optional, so you don't have to do it if you don't want too.

I liked it. Three times over. This is the ONLY grindy thing that exists in this game. Some people actually like that kind of thing. Go get your tomestone, primal, or raid weapon. Leave grinders the single solitary grind we have in this game. And if you think this was the worst grind in any mmo, you haven't played enough mmos

Once you reach a certain point, it's pretty much all you have to spend myth/soldiery/whatever on, so you may as well do it.
I prefer it immensely over things like EQ1 and EQ2's epic weapons, which required clearing several endgame raids (at the time) that were on up to a full week long respawn timers.
Sure they felt "epic," but it was really disheartening getting one shot a week at something only to lose it to another person of your class cuz you need 24+ people to actually kill it.
I'll take a somewhat tedious resource grind over that any day.

my thing is that at the last part of the zodiac quest I paid 1.3 mil on items then have to turn around and wait on a drop at the END of an old ass dungeon....... i ran Haukke Manor HM 23 times and still no drop

My problem with the relic quest is that you have to take it all the way until you complete all of the LIGHT FARMING before it's better than a Shiva weapon... Honestly talk about bull ****. I farmed all of Shiva's weapons in a week if that... lol. Getting your relic to i115 takes a LONG and tedious commitment lol. Sure it ends up being better than Shiva but damn it takes a long time to get it that far.

The original ffxi relics made these look like a walk in the park imo. Of course later on they changed enough stuff to make it easier.

honestly the only problem I have with it so far is RNG and queue times for non tank
